1 Peter 1: 13
“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.”
King James Version:
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Prepare your mind! “Gird up the loins” of your mind, is borrowed speech analogy used in connection with the long garments of that day. Sojourners had to prepare for travel by gathering in their loose clothing in order to alleviate entanglement and difficulty in travel.
People of the Lord……our mind is the front line of battle and as Soldiers of Christ, and Christians in spiritual warfare, we ‘must’ take charge of it first and foremost. We must take every thought captive as Paul passionately states in 2 Corinthians 10:5, when he says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” We must gather our thoughts and our affections, and at the same time, be on the alert for spiritual dangers that lurk so that we don’t become subtly entangled in sin and distractions of worry, doubt, fear and selfish pleasures. This girding of our minds calls for temperance in behavior and humility in opinions and practices as we move forward in battle with a supernatural, godly strength, derived from the Hope of eternal life, that is ours in Christ.
He is victorious! That victory is ours!! God’s grace embraces us now and the vastness of it continually dispenses to His obedient children as they strive for holiness in all affairs, in every situation and towards all people. March on faithfully, chosen one of God, steadfast in your faith, unwavering in the knowledge of Christ’s salvation, prepared and ready to defeat the enemy under the banner of God’s righteous judgment, compassion, grace, love and mercy, and the victorious, shed blood of Christ that covers, forgives, redeems and saves us once and for all. Hallelujah!!
