Called To Faith

Believers are called to believe in the living, active and victorious Lord. The One who lived, walked, taught, died, and rose to new life, conquering death to make a way for us to escape its grip and its ‘so forever’ penalty! It’s a simple ‘faith’ thing, so simple yet so complex, that we may tangle up its simplicity with our theology and head knowledge completely missing the soul mark and the fundamentals of it. It’s not a Social Gospel, It’s not about what we do and how much we do! It’s about our solid faith in our Saviour and what He’s done for us, not what we do for Him. Our works won’t cut it! But our faith in Jesus’ will.

The thing is, It’s not all that difficult, but it’s not just ‘simple’ either and we don’t have to understand it, we just have to accept it!

We’re called to enter into a faith that’s abstract and yet so very concrete and solid! Abstract, because we can’t see the one true God we worship, but solid because we see His creation, and we know that we know that we know, He’s present in our lives! Believers, without doubt, know that He has saved, renewed and transformed old life into new! We stand amazed in His presence when we stand before Him justified, cleansed, and forgiven in our moment of belief! That ~ beautiful one is a solid faith in a sovereign God! Old desires have passed and the new desire within our very being is to live to please Him. Oh yeah ~ That’s true saving faith; where divine grace meets us in the old mud puddles of yesterday and the same old, same old, that once got our attention and drew us into the sinking mire, dissipates before us, as we grow and mature in the faith! It’s called freedom and It’s a sweet life ~ no, it’s not easy; it’s not a bed of roses, and the way is difficult and long and heavy and broken at times ~ but it’s sweet and it’s abundant!

It’s not simple; it’s very complex to a hardened heart. Undeserved? Yeah, it’s undeserved, but we’re under grace and losers are winners in God’s economy. When He graces us with unconditional love, it’s a defining moment in our history, when the old is gone and the new has come.

We are so lavishly graced with such an awesome opportunity to repent and be freed of our bondage. Why do we linger on the fringes when now is the time of salvation?

“Behold now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation”

2 Corinthians 6:2.

Where’s Your Faith?

“When Jesus woke up He rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. Then He asked them,”Where is your faith?” Matthew 8: 24b

I wonder how many times He’s asked us the same question? In V.22 He made a statement to his disciples when He said,

“Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.”

So they did the obvious. They got into the boat at His command and set sail across the water without care! All was well with their world and yeah, they could simply trust in the ergonomics of natural laws, and that the boat would get them there especially when their Lord accompanied them. All was smooth sailing and all was good ~ until a vicious storm rose up out of nowhere threatening to take them under. They were with their Lord but suddenly their fears were bigger than He was and He didn’t seem to be enough for their moments of panic. They forgot His words of stability and promise of direction about crossing to the other side and when He fell asleep in the boat they felt He fell asleep on the job! He wasn’t disturbed, anxious, upset or even awake! He suddenly seemed to be just like them, without control over the situation and they lost all confidence and all hope in their Saviour and in their circumstances. Beautiful soul, if He’s given the command to Cross to the other side, or to climb the mountain, or walk the valley, you can know He’s either in the boat, waiting on the mountain or walking that valley with you. He’ll get you there when the storms rage, the mountains fall, and the valley gets deeper. No need for panic when He walks the way or sails the seas with us. Yeah, we can know, He really is in control even when it appears hopeless, broken and crumbled.

So ~ For your next deep-water, nose dive that surfaces out of nowhere, or for your next “Where the rubber meets the road” experience; those hard places to maneuver through, and those panic attacks that render us useless, listen for His counsel. In Psalm 46:10 the psalmist reminds us of His words. “He says,

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Dear one, He will be exalted in your storm, on your crumbled mountain and in your deepest of the deep valley. When He asks, “Where is your faith” say with the Psalmist in Psalm 121:2,

“My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

We gotta learn to trust Him even when we perceive He’s fallen asleep in the boat. Wake Him, ask for His help and let Him rebuke the wind and the waves as He speaks peace into the eye of your storm.

Out For Recycle

So, ok! You know God has this, whatever it is you’ve got on your mind and your heart. Whatever it is that’s being difficult for you to manage. You know for sure He’s right there in the middle of it right? I know that we know He takes the bad, blesses it in recycle and makes good of it! Yeah, we do know that don’t we? We really do know that! But when He has to take the bad, to use it for good, it’s really hard on the rest of us isn’t it? If only, oh if only, He could just always use the good, and not have to take us through the thicket of consequences and the trenches of pitfalls. We’re thankful and blessed that He can do it and does it to perfection but it’s those hard places in the getting from the bad to the good that are so difficult to maneuver through and around and in and out of.

We need to remember in the hard places there’s been no abandonment. God hasn’t left us! He has not thrown us aside for something better. No… He’s just got to take this old sinful world with it’s pathetic baggage and tweak it here and fine tune it there to redeem it, make it of some value, as He works it out for our good and His glory. But He’s with us through the confusion and chaos of it all. He’s walking us through the consequences of the bad.

David knew! He knew that his life was all fashioned out and planned by a brilliant, loving God who cared compassionately about his situation and his outlandish circumstances. In Psalm 139:16, he confirms it in his mind, heart and soul when he vocally proclaims to the LORD, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in Your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are Your thoughts about me, O God. They can not be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! When I wake up You are still with me!

David’s sense of perception of His LORD, led him to a sweet place of awe before his awesome God, who was in complete control of all things. Whether good or bad, he knew God had complete understanding and a strength and ability to work it out. So can we! In our highs and lows we can know, Romans 8:28, “That in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
So when He has to recycle the wrong, He has to recycle our worry into TRUST, our fear into COURAGE, and our doubt into FAITH. Then He can work it out and fashion a new hope for our road ahead bringing a new joy and a new peace into the hard place!

The Final Straw

Advent
Advent

Ok, so the journey is long and the steps are difficult and the end just doesn’t seem to be in view. Don’t we just trudge along sometimes with head down and heart heavy and steps weary? I can only imagine a couple that did the same as they journeyed to Bethlehem for their government duties with taxes to pay and deadlines to meet and bones just as weary as ours! Yet with strength waning and with great apprehension amidst simple trust, nagging deep within their souls ~ they made their way. Yeah, Joseph the obedient through thick and thin, and Mary ~ heavy with child ~ the Savior of the World, experiencing events so complex and hard to comprehend they made their way ~ just because it was God’s plan and they were a part of it. Sometimes His plans are not easy, but it was a beautiful plan, a plan for saving the world and it had to be and it had to be just “precise” in its timing and perfect right down to the last straw.

No room, and all alone ~ but no! Not alone! Not even for a second, because God was guiding every lonely step of the way, even through their weariness. So beautiful weary you with soul heavy, and heart aching know that your steps are ordered by this same sovereign God that led the weary couple to Bethlehem! He directs with events so perfectly timed that we could never figure them out. He unravels the mess, the complications, the unanswered questions, the apprehension, and the fear right down to the final straw, where you feel like throwing in the towel. So don’t do it! He’s got it! Whatever has you bound in worry, Don’t give up! Mary went through what she went through for the ultimate purpose of delivering Christ to the world and presented us with a Savior and Yeah, a beautiful example for us.

So, our purpose in this life is to do the same through our struggles and our situations! Whatever difficulty is heavy on your plate this advent season, Let God lead you through it with precision as you deliver Christ to a needy world, through your faith and trust and joy even in the difficult.

Luke 1:35, 37
“The angel replied, ” The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy and he will be called the Son Of God….For nothing is impossible with God.”
