All We Need

We need a big heaping dose of God’s grace today. His grace for the journey! His grace for the road! His grace for the difficult choices, hard decisions of life and the just plain troubles! They come, don’t they? They stomp in uninvited and rudely parade around our little selves making us feel very small in our little worlds. And yeah, Some days, just when we think we’ve managed five baby steps forward, we find ourselves regressed ten giant steps backward, plunged neck-deep in the muddied waters of self and consequences. The enemy is advancing and we can’t see clearly, nor can we swim in what appears to be a threatening situation! The hope, that faintly flickered in the heart, just flickered for the last time and there we wrestle the high waters of bad choices, troubled relationships, financial pressure, addictions, loss and on and on it goes, as we sink lower, yet try to keep our heads above the mud and mire. We feel even God has forsaken us and left us to drown in our circumstances. Oh, but we can know that He hasn’t left us at all.

In Judges 6:11 we find Gideon having a very bad day. He’s threshing wheat at the bottom of a winepress to hide grain from the enemies, feeling very discouraged, very inadequate to face the situation at hand and forsaken by God. Sounds all too familiar, doesn’t it?

In this most unlikely moment, God sent him a message, no, not a text and not by phone, but by angel.

THE MESSAGE? “Things are going to turn around for you Gideon. The Lord is with you!” Powerful words for one threshing grain at the bottom of the wine press to stay hidden from advancing enemies or for one who wrestles in high, muddied waters.

Gideon’s circumstances were not lining up with what this angel was saying…and Gideon wasn’t impressed, nor was he hopeful. So he complained to the Angel about his weakness and the hopelessness of the situation, until the Lord Himself spoke.

You Gideon, “Go in the strength in you have and I will be with you. You will defeat the enemy as one man.”

2 Corinthians 12:9 is a promise that we might want to tuck into our hearts for safekeeping……

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12: 7 “So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I asked the Lord to take it away. Each time He said (here’s the verse to tuck away verse 9) “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

The Lord first served up this promise of powerful Truth to Gideon and He still serves it to us today. Right there smack dab in the middle of our highs and lows! At the bottom of the barrel, so to speak, and In the middle of our difficult choices and tough decisions and when we’re drowning in the muddy water. When the choices are hard and the battle is raging …and you’re exhausted from it all, The Lord says…“Things are going to turn around for you Gideon. The Lord is with you!” ”Go in the strength you have and I will be the strength you need.”

My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”

When the battle is hard yeah, we PRESS ON!!

Alive And Real

Yeah, He’s there even in your hard times, and in your down and outers. He’s always there, right there beside you, around you, surrounding you ready to lift you up and hold your head high. When you see the Saviour and when you look into the face of our Lord you see the Hope that He holds for you in those nail scars and in those hands that outstretched the cross for you. Yeah, He’s the One, the sovereign One who’s right there with you now ~ very much alive and very much real and very much present in your deepest hurt. His light shines darkest in your night

“You are my hiding place; You will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.”
Psalm 32:7-8

“My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
Exodus 33:14

Hope In Another Day

Ok, so yesterday came and went and now a new day begins. Maybe yesterday wasn’t what you expected and maybe it didn’t go as planned and it sure didn’t turn out as you hoped it would. It’s ok because today and tomorrow are new days on a new horizon. New days for new hope to rise up in that soul of yours. New days for the Lord’s new mercies!

They are new every morning you know. And if you breathe into a new day, you can know there are new mercies tucked away just for you, just for the day, just for the moments as they unfold, and the sweet grace that He gives, is immeasurable and it comes along with that. So when the day doesn’t go as you’d hoped, hope in the Lord in another new day!

It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3: 22, 23 KJV

Broken Blessing

Ok, so you’ve got more than enough on your mind and on your plate for now. Where do you turn when it appears that all turns seem left and not right? Doesn’t God hear and see that our faith is real? Why then, does this go on forever without some answers somewhere? Yeah, life is so daily and the battles rage and the sickness lingers, and the broken flounder and the heart breaks, and the finances press in, and the deadlines crowd and oh yeah, the pressure of it all is on overload and it’s all on you! Faint of heart, take heed, ‘because in God’s economy these things hold blessing so difficult to find when the mind is dwelling on the hardship of it all.

In Psalm 121: 1 the Psalmist prays the prayer that we need to pray, “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.…

So it’s time once again for complete surrender and giving up and a giving over to the One in control. The Sovereign God who really knows what’s up and what’s going on in your world of trouble. He cares, He really does and He’s there to take that whole weight off your shoulders and give you rest you need for that heart, mind, and beautiful soul. Take Him up on His offer to help. Give it over yet again and walk away from the chaos, knowing it’s all left in good hands. He works with precision and order and He won’t answer a moment too soon or a moment too late. As a matter of fact, His answer might come weeks later and so far removed from our prayer that in our humanness, we forget and think it’s a coincidence. So be alert! It will all be perfected, and just at the proper time!

So ~ keep your eyes open for the little things and miracles along the way, because even the smallest things that could easily go unnoticed are the blessings hidden in the hardship. Yeah, there’s blessing in brokenness, so be broken, then and find blessing there.
