Broken, Bruised And Victorious

So you and I and we and us, some days we can feel all beaten up, bruised and used and then other days we can feel so unused unneeded and unnecessary. Isn’t that the truth? Both feelings so the same but yet, so at different ends of the spectrum yet very real and leave us feeling not important for this life. Ahh, but you are valuable. Remember beautiful you, that not one of those moments say who you are or define your character. Not one of those moments go unnoticed by our all-knowing, all present God and Creator, Our Ancient Of Days, who knows our end from our beginning. Yeah, not one of those ‘life’ moments catches Him off guard. Not even for a moment. He has them all. He holds them all tightly in battered, nail-scarred hands! Our Lord, Himself was beaten up, used up and still today many find Him useless and unnecessary as they go about their busy lives of searching for pie in the sky. Yeah, He was rejected, beaten, tortured, accused, and used up! But dear one, He didn’t let that stop Him. All of those moments were all part and parcel of the salvation plan and so He took that horrendous treatment all the way to the cross and gave it up for victory when He shed innocent blood as a sacrifice for the sins of the world; yours and mine and everyone in between. Yeah, that’s what He did and how he handled the sin problem! Giving in to the Father’s will was mandatory for the ultimate victory of our Lord. His victory over death and ruin, rejection and pain was culminated in his glorious resurrection and that resurrection power is our grace, our victory over all the unfair treatment, all the used up, beaten up moments of our lives ~ of our journey!! Don’t forget it! He’s been there! He’s got this for you!

So beaten, broken, bruised and beautiful you, say with Psalmist in Psalm 27: 1b, 3, 5b, 6, “The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?…Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked I will remain confident. He will hide me in His sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock. Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me. At His sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy, singing and praising the Lord with music.”

Standing Strong In God’s Strength

Psalm 56:4
“In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?”

Poor David was seized by the Philistines who concerned about his loyalties in I Sam 21:10-15 and brought before King Achish. His enemies were on his case. They slandered, they hounded, they twisted his words, they plotted and schemed against him and made his life quite miserable. Sound familiar?

This Psalm begins in petition asking for their evil to cease but quickly contrasts the power of mere flesh as He moves into confidence in an infinitely more powerful and immortal God. A God who knew David inside and out. A God who kept track of his sorrows and collected His tears. David knew God’s promise and He knew He was on his side.

When our enemies, who were maybe once even our friends, knock us, chase us down, slander, twist, plot, scheme and make life miserable for us lets remember, mere ‘flesh’ can not stand against our Sovereign God who asks us to wait on Him for our strength. He will protect His own against false accusations! That doesn’t mean that we take on the role of a couch potato, hiding in fear and doing nothing! Rather to be up and alert in His presence, in prayer and actively moving about, being wise and discerning! Choosing to make the right choices as He directs our steps in our workplace, home, school, church, with our peers, our family and our friends.

In times of fear or discouragement, let’s say with confidence, as David said, “In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?” Friends, with God on our side, all power is ours to tap into to. He has us covered and His victory is ours if we allow Him to do the battle. ~k

Sojourners Together

The Web

Yeah, we’re sojourners along this earthly journey of life. Broken and bruised and sometimes just hanging on by a thread of hope and praying our way through! Sometimes our wilderness wanderings are long and tedious with anxious thoughts, fears, panic moments disastrous happenings and just lost trust! Times when we forget to be thankful for just what we have and become critical of the provision made for us. Our manna becomes stale and mundane and we crave the meat that we remember back in the days of bondage. The days when the bad outweighed the good but yet our selfish pleasures led the way and disguised the truth from our hearts and minds. Yeah, we’re travelling, you and I and we and us, through the trenches, and over the hard places and strongholds along the way with roads that are steep and dangerously overloaded with “stuff’ along the way to distract us and take us to our defeat!
Beautiful soul, in these moments of trial, we must be strong, keeping the faith and persevering in the journey of unknowns, ready to face the battle and with the Lord’s help conquer what ever comes.

Safe
David knew those anxious moments and in Psalm 3: 1 knew of his many enemies that were against him, but he praised the Lord anyway in Psalm 3: verses 3,4,5 and 6 “But you O Lord are a shield around me. Your are the glory, the One who hold my head high. I cried out to the Lord and He answered me from His holy mountain. I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me. I am not afraid of ten thousand enemies that surround me on every side….Vs 8, “Victory comes from you Oh Lord.”
So beautiful one, find victory in the One true God today!

Promise To Protect

Psalm 18:1, 2.
“For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

God’s promise to protect His people rings loud and clear through the ages and pages of history and still remains strong for us to claim today. He had rescued David from his enemies and David was filled with gratitude and awe for God’s hand of protection and divine intervention. In these verses he used five military symbols to characterize God and His divine care. He is like a rock (safety) that can’t be moved by anyone who wishes to harm us. He is a fortress (a place of peaceful defense) where we can find rest yet the enemy can’t follow. He is as a shield coming between us and danger. He is as a horn of salvation; a symbol of might, power and victory and a stronghold, lifting us high above our enemies.

Oh beautiful soul, What an awesome place to be in times of trouble when the enemy is preparing weapons for battle against us. In such times we must remember God is all we need! He is “ALL” we need! His love is steadfast, faithful and unending. His love is secure, His grace is sustaining and immeasurable and yeah, His victory is already won! If you will find rest in Him you will find peace, because Isaiah 54: 17 gives the promise that no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.”

Our God is a faithful God and in His almighty hand of deliverance, and sure victory we can join in David’s victory and praise as we find protection, shelter and salvation from the storms that threaten.
