Paintbrush of Red

Some days the pain goes way deep and the hurt is really real and really hard and the heart hurts and the head hurts and the soul cries and the tears flow and the days are just so overwhelming.

In these anxious-filled, difficult moments, we have an Author writing our lives with pen in one nail-pierced hand and a divine paintbrush of grace-filled red in the other. His blood was shed for us and yeah, He paints our story beautifully now because of it.

He’s our Saviour and He’s made a way for us to make it through this hard place! Only because of the cross, His death, and His life can we have hope and do this hard thing, defying us and staring us in the face. So whatever it is He’s written and writing and hand-painted for your story, you gotta know He’s got this and His sustaining grace covers it for us.

So beautiful you with a beautiful soul, At such a time as this, He is our Healer, our Protector, and our Provider through it all and all the way to the cross He proved it. Now, just hand those anxious thoughts, that fear, disappointment, and deep hurt over into the Saviour’s pierced hands, the one and only Author of our faith who paints our story so perfectly; so beautifully perfect for us at such a time as this! It’s ok then to just breathe and rest in His care and safekeeping and know the promise of Romans 8: 28 is Truth!

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

T’was The Night Before Advent

‘Twas the first day of Advent, though COVID was near,
And the people were scattered, some trembling in fear.
For COVID unravelled their plans and their schemes,
Had stolen their hopes and had taken their dreams.

COVID came calling, unwelcomed for sure
And shut down the world, until there was a cure.
It called all the shots and shut up and shut down
Leaving lonely, and isolate throughout all the town.

Ahh, but one thing we know even COVID can’t take,
Is the joy in our hearts that our Saviour can make!
It’s a Joy and a Peace and a Love, sure to bless
With the birth of the babe, whom we now can address.

He’s our Saviour, who came for a world that was lost
Not to COVID, but sin, and He counted the cost.
First the manger, the cross, His death and the grave,
Then His glorious rising and our sin He forgave!

This COVID can’t threaten, this Saviour we know
Can’t keep Him from coming to lighten the load
He brings rest for the weary and hope for the soul,
Shalom for the broken, with a heavenly goal.

Love born in the stable, that night long ago,
Is our Saviour, Sustainer, Protector from foe.
He’s our Light on the pathway, the wind in our sail
When He’s our celebration this COVID will pale!

Soul Friend

So when things just aren’t the way they seem, and when things just don’t go the way you planned, You gotta know it’s all ok anyway right? That medical diagnosis, just wasn’t what you thought it might be! That bank account that wasn’t topped off as you thought, and comes right down it, it left high you and dry with huge demands nipping at your heels. That friend, who well, turns out, wasn’t a friend after all and rather than supporting you ~ betrayed you, and just made for a terrible, miserable, very bad day! Yeah, so when you’re turned over to the wolves, shoved under the bus, or hung out to dry, life can be pretty upsetting and it can rankle the spirits a bit, not to mention the hurt and the broken that comes of it. The hurt and the broken that you’re left to deal with and mend, somehow, someway!

Well, friend, there is a Soul Friend when everyone else goes out. There is a Care Giver; a Sustainer, and a Provider when the bank account runs low and the cupboards are bare. There is a soul – saver and a mercy – maker when the underside of the bus is rusty and the ravenous wolves torment!

Oh yes, There is a Protector and One who is faithful, even in the hard places. David inspired by the Spirit of God, writes wisdom into Psalm 138 for all of us to read and learn from and in verse 7 he states, “Though I am surrounded by troubles, You will protect me from the anger of my enemies. You reach out Your hand, and the power of Your right hand saves me. Ahh, then comes the thrilling realization for David, when he continues on to say, even in his hardship,

“The LORD will work out His plans for my life–for Your faithful love O LORD, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for You made me.”

Yeah! Our Lord has this too, whatever it is that has you, and when you’re looking at the gruesome underside of the bus, you can know, even there, even though He maybe didn’t cause it, He allowed it for a purpose and uses it for your good and His glory! Phew, that’s a perfect thought for us right now!

So hey, beautiful you, right there where you are, you can know He cares and cares deeply! Abandonment isn’t in His vocabulary. He won’t leave you, just because you messed up! He won’t turn on you or reject you. That’s not what He does. Trust Him in your trouble and hide out in His presence. It’s so safe there!
