Those Good Ole’ Days

Some days we just need a gentle reminder, that life has been good and is good.

So look at the time and how quickly it’s gone by! Oh yeah, you remember when the house was full from top to bottom ~ from one bedroom to the other and there wasn’t an empty space to sit for a minute’s quiet anywhere, because it was ‘kid’ full and it rang with laughter and it sang with giggles and lullabies and story times and those were the days weren’t they? Oh yeah, they were full of crying, and diapers, and two-year old busy – ness, and schools days, and tooth fairies and crayons and homework and spelling bees, but they were still fun days with scattered frustrations weren’t they? They were full of pigtails and braides, ponytails, barrettes and bow ties, little boy blues and little tin soldiers, crickets, toads, pollywogs, and turtles on creek banks. They were the days for sure, when the home was filled to overflowing with good times, now reduced only to cherished memories and warm memories and fun memories and “Oh I’d love to go back for just a minute” memories. But the days are gone and the kids are grown and the empty nest might even be more alone than it once was, ‘cuz you’re living it alone for some reason or another. Maybe death has come knocking and taken a loved one or maybe death has come by way of separation or divorce and it’s ravaged your beautiful soul and your once – cherished home and taken its toll on what you once had. Life is funny isn’t it? Sometimes we don’t even realize the good stuff until it’s not there anymore.

Maybe you’re under the weight of depression because it’s all just so hard to cope with. Oh beautiful you, just as you are, alone and longing for the old times or perhaps longing for your heavenly home, you have life still; see it within you! You have breath now, just look at you and all that you’ve accomplished with it. Take a good long at all the work you’ve done, the career you’ve managed, maybe the children you’ve raised, or the home you’ve kept. Just look at the wisdom gained over your years gone by. See how much of it you’ve gathered over the difficult journey that you’ve just traveled. We’ve all traveled them haven’t we? Encountered those difficulties where we wanted to give up and plead sanctuary and those dreadful moments of “Just get me to a safe place.”

Don’t lose heart! ‘nor hope! Your joy resides in your next breath, so enjoy today for the day that it is and take it and know that God gives life to enjoy and even when the hard times come, we know they’ve made us stronger and more resilient to the enemy’s defeat. Our God is greater than all the powerful, evil forces that come against us in our most down and out times. Our awesome God is victorious and He’s got you covered, right down to your deepest heart-break! He’s able to heal all the raw hurt and bitter heart that life, hardship and loneliness has dealt you. Yeah, the good ole’ days were the days of good times but today is just ‘your’ day with God! So beautiful soul, go to Him! Go with Him and find peace in His divine peace and vast immeasurable love in His rich and unconditional love.

“Those who live in the shelter of the most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord; He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He alone is my God and I trust in Him…….He will cover you with His feathers….His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”
Psalm 91: 1,2, 4

“When they call on me I will answer; I will be with them trouble. I will rescue and hon our them.
Psalm 91: 15

Good Ole Days

So maybe your day isn’t going so great and it feels like it’s one big heap of nonsense that no one even cares about. What do you do with that? What to do when the good ole days have kicked up their heels and jollied off south to the sunshine and fun-shine and left you in the heaps of winter doldrums feeling a bit shabby and just not up to snuff? Maybe there’s been a conundrum of if’s and and’s and but’s and you’ve played 20 million questions and not gotten any answers because there aren’t any answers to get anywhere. Everybody else is right and no one even hears what you have to say! It’s a crazy mixed up life and your day has just toppled off the wall much like Humpty Dumpty.

Yeah, we’ve all had them haven’t we? We’ve all been there, haven’t we? We’ve all witnessed first hand the downside of difficult and the hard – pressed pages of hardship. Beautiful you, through it all, stay true to the right things. Don’t let a downcast spirit crush your day or dictate your feelings. You can know the sun shines from the heavens on you, and even through dark clouds of gray, God sends His grace and favour from His heavenly throne to your soul. Get away with the God who cares deeply about you and even though you feel alone and isolated He’s crazy about who you are. You are made in His image and that’s His brilliant creation and perfection, personified in you. It’s no small matter. It’s who you are!

David knew how perfect God’s way is when he penned Psalm 18:30, 32, 33, 34, “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him….It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; and He enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle;….You give me the shield of victory.”

Awesome words from David to us on this all gone wrong day. So, beautiful one, get away with Jesus, even for a few minutes. Soak in His grace and learn from His laws. They will revive your soul and bring joy to your heart. It’s a promise, read Psalm 19: 7, 8, 9

They were full of skipping ropes, skinned knees, pigtails and braids, ponytails, barrettes and ribbons and bows. There were little boy blues and Rinny Tin Tins, trucks, cars and crickets, toads, pollywogs, and turtles on creek banks!
