Sweet Moments With God And Coffee

Little Thoughts For Big Days

Don’t you just love those early morning hours when it’s just God and you and the whole rest of your world still sleeps? My four, little furry girls still breathe heavily on the floor at my feet and I feel so thankful for their furry, little presence and their joyful, yet ‘busy’ little bodies in the home. What would life be without them? There’s just so much to be thankful for isn’t there? And there’s just not another moment so sweet in my day as this one!

Even the issues heavy on the heart lighten just a touch, in those ‘oh so still and quiet times.’ Oh ~ maybe the rest of the world is hustling and bustling down the highway, racing the clock to make work arrival deadlines with buses to board, flights to catch and time-clocks to punch. But you? Ahh, for you, at least for just a few ‘ever so quick’ morning minutes’ while still savoring that sweet coffee ~ well, they’re just yours ~ with God! Just to let that “ever so fragile” stillness linger and the aches and pains ease ~ maybe just a bit ~ and then just to lay it all out before Him and listen to His council and advise for the day. He’s sure to let you know just what He’d like you do and just how to go about it. You can be sure that your weakness won’t hinder and that He won’t ask the impossible of you and whatever He requires He has already equipped you for. So ~ no worries, no frets! Not today! Just find that “God confidence” and let Him grace you with His supernatural power. Let Him lift you over the hurdles and the high places. Rest in the quiet moments with the Light and shine in the dark. Let hope rise within your beautiful soul and watch it bloom today through the aches and pains ~ The broken heart ~ The deadlines and the fears.

2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Hold On To Hope

It’s so easy isn’t it ~ to blame God when we mess up? And yeah ~ we want it straightened out yesterday and if we know anything about God at all, we might rudely demand that He help us out of the mess and grant us our “genie in the lamp desire” just because He can and we so deserve it. Yeah, it’s our selfish, human nature that gets the better of us and gets us on it’s side only to abandon us at an empty wish pond full of mud and mire. We blame everyone else and oh yes, we blame God for our problem and our lack of good fortune! Like the thief on the one side of Christ on the cross, we arrogantly ask God to prove His worth, use His credentials, save His reputation and in so doing save us from our ruin.

Ahh but, God isn’t such a quick fix because He hears our spiritual words and He sees attitudes and behaviors that don’t jive! He knows that the heart is far from Him and our talk is cheap! He has work to do with our immaturity and some serious ‘boot camp’ training before He’s ready to answer our whims and wishes. So ~ in His quietness and lack of response, bitterness brews in our soul and so ~ we turn and run back to the heaps of rubble and our empty wish ponds just to show God who is boss and prove to the world that we don’t care. We give God a bad rap before friends as we blatantly and severely influence them in wrong ways.

Let’s get it! Let’s get that God has our best interest at heart and that the rubble we may find ourselves in is because we’ve put ourselves there with our choices. You know how you got there and it took time, so it will take some serious time to get out. You won’t fix it just because you wish it. You won’t fix it just because you turn to God for a week, or a month, six months, or even a year. Nor will He ~ not necessarily ~ and why should He? There are a lot of issues and hearts and souls and ‘stuff’ that need addressing. Closets need cleaning and God works from the inside out and the ground/root level up. His works are not superficial band-aids to cover a hurt just to get you through the day , but His architecture is solid, ground level building and framing to stabilize and brace for some serious storms and rough roads ahead. Yeah, life is tough for all of us, but living it with God and consistently good choices it becomes a whole lot easier! Never lose hope. Don’t let it go! Hold on tightly to it until it blooms.

True faith perseveres…..

Phil 3:14
. But as they “work out [their] salvation with fear and trembling” (Phil 2:12), they find that “it is God who is at work in [them], both to will and work for His good pleasure” Phil. 2:13.

God Bless

Find Rest For The Problem

Sometimes it’s just one little thing that haunts you and keeps you from joy in that soul of yours. Sometimes it’s just something small but so overwhelming that it takes over your thoughts, your focus and ~ your life. You can’t live without thinking about it and you certainly can’t live comfortably with it in your every moment. What is it that has you so fixed in it’s bondage that you can’t get free? A health issue, a financial strain, a bad choice, a child, a prodigal, an offence, a job, maybe a relationship or a relative that has your heart and soul so tormented that it seems to stalk you relentlessly, hounding your every day and your every sleepless night? Where does it end and where is relief from the torment? Matthew reminds us of the Lord’s words in Matthew 11: 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Friends there is no other place to rest your weary, troubled mind but in the Lord’s care! He’s got you and He’s got your problem. So let Him take it and then ~ oh soul, find rest and find that joy that comes in that simple trust and that sweet, child like faith.

Jeremiah 31:25
I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”

Ordinary You

So, you’re just you and in your eyes, just an average soul without any credentials to call your own. Maybe just a me, myself and I trying to make it through each day in one piece. There are no miracles or so it seems. There’s nothing spectacular in life ~ never was and still doesn’t seem to be anything of importance. A job is a job and work is work and the day? Well, it just goes along without drama. There’s just nothing extra to give that spark of motivation or to set you apart from the crowd! Sometimes you wonder where the ho-hum, hum drum will give way and elevate to spectacular and if it ever will…..ahh … deep down in your heart of hearts you know it never will.

The good news is ~ there is good news, all wrapped up in a risen Lord, who met two downcast ordinary disciples on the road to Emmaus. He met them on their journey and kept His identity from them until the proper time. At the breaking of bread together, He opened their eyes and they recognized Him as the risen Lord. Ah yes, God is there in the hum drum just as He always has been. He’s not always spectacular in His approach. He doesn’t always speak through the burning bush, or through the parting of the Red Sea. He doesn’t always turn the water into wine or crush the giant with one small stone. Sometimes He keeps us guessing if He’s really there at all! We don’t always see Him or recognize Him but I love how He speaks in the ordinary incidentals of life ~ through the child, in the grocery store, at the cash counter, at the green light and the red and the caution. Through the driver who just told you off in no uncertain terms. Yes, He speaks if we listen. He does walk with us on our Road to Emmaus. We might not recognize Him in our downcast state of mind and despair, but He walks there and He walks with us through our darkest hour. He’s the lifter of our heads. Let Him lift yours today and perhaps you’ll recognize Him as the risen Lord and the Sovereign God, who cares for all your concerns and provides for all your needs. He speaks to the ordinary in ordinary ways! Let’s be thankful for the ordinary hum drum and be silent enough to let Him whisper to our ordinary souls.

Luke 24: 15
“As they talked and discussed these things, Jesus Himself, suddenly came and began walking with them. But God kept them from recognizing Him.”

Luke 24: 30 – 31
“And it came to pass, as He sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight”
