A Thankful Heart Is A Peaceful Heart

Hey, don’t we all just need a little peace today to quiet our minds and souls before a Saviour who came so humbly, to give it so generously?

The word Peace, is a Jewish greeting and in Hebrew ~ “shalom” captures the spirit of Jesus’ work on this old earth to restore peace and quiet the hearts of sinful people who tend to go their own way and mess things up quite readily. Yeah, we tend to want to do it our way and so we do and so we find ourselves in many places of unrest, experiencing anything but His blessed peace that transcends beyond our understanding and beyond our circumstances.

God’s work of peace to restore humanity’s relationship to God was fulfilled in the birth of the Messiah, the cross and the glorious resurrection of our Saviour! Oh yeah, we have so much to be thankful for, yet we forget to be thankful and our desire for more undermines our gratefulness as we enter into the pit of arrogance and pride rather than peace. Our desire for our rights, our power, our authority, and our desire for more this and more that, rob us of God’s generous and luxurious gift of peace!

It is a luxury but ‘Self’ is our own worst enemy, our worst deceiver, our worst liar and our worst false god. Succumbing to ‘self’ while aspiring for the top, ironically sets us on a downward spiral of unrest, uneasy and undone!

Feeling uneasy, and fearful, today in this crazy world? In your crazy world? Get alone with the Saviour who came to lavish you with peace and usher it into the hearts and lives of humanity. It’s there for you, close the self door and step into it! Claim it, and walk on in the beauty and pure bliss of it.

Philippians 4: 6, 7, 8
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.…”

2 Timothy 1:7
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

John 14:27
“I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a peace that the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid…”

Acceptance And Contentment

Philippians 4: 6-7.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Wow! what a great word of encouragement from Paul, written from behind bars, for the persecuted Christians in the church of Philippi. Do you need to hear them today for your whirlwind world that seems to spin out of control? He was all too aware of the discouragements, and difficulties that plagued them. He, himself, had been in similar conditions and was in prison because of the trials that bombarded him, in sharing the message of the Gospel. Paul didn’t speak much of his own discouragement or fear, but instead, he wrote with joy, from a heart of compassion, demonstrating that Christians can be passionate for Christ regardless of their circumstances.

These words were written by Paul to encourage the fearfully anxious to talk over everything with God. To bring each and every issue, situation and circumstance before Him in prayer, being ‘thankful’ for whatever it was that caused chaos in their life and uprooted their peace of mind. It’s tough to be thankful for bad days isn’t it? It’s very difficult to wrap our mind around thankfulness, when everything goes wrong. Those in Philippi experienced more than just bad days. They were immersed in terrible days of torture, torment, and possible death! Yet, Paul exhorts them to be ‘thankful.” Paul knew the secret! He knew that it was only in thankfulness of heart that we can accept what comes. It’s in accepting the situation, that we find contentment and it’s in contentment that we find a healing peace from God that can not be explained. It’s a deep inner, spiritual knowledge that all is well with our soul and with our life, because God is the Master engineer and come what may, through it all, all things are Father filtered and customized to our needs to aid us in spiritual growth and maturity in Christ.

What’s on your heart today. What chaotic circumstances are battering you like a ship tossed at sea? Mark 4: 39, tells us “Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.” Christ can speak peace into the eye of your storm and into the heat of your struggle, if we ask HIm. Quiet your heart and your mind before Him and Be still! Psalm 46: 10 says “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

When thankfulness to God in all things is our default, We can experience peace in all things! It’s God’s promise! Let Him rebuke the wind and waves in your life and speak His gentle, healing peace into the storm.

Sweet Moments With God And Coffee

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

Don’t you just love those early morning hours when it’s just God and you and the whole rest of your world still sleeps? My four, little furry girls still breathe heavily on the floor at my feet and I feel so thankful for their furry, little presence and their joyful, yet ‘busy’ little bodies in the home. What would life be without them? There’s just so much to be thankful for isn’t there? And there’s just not another moment so sweet in my day as this one!

Even the issues heavy on the heart lighten just a touch, in those ‘oh so still and quiet times.’ Oh ~ maybe the rest of the world is hustling and bustling down the highway, racing the clock to make work arrival deadlines with buses to board, flights to catch and time-clocks to punch. But you? Ahh, for you, at least for just a few ‘ever so quick’ morning minutes’ while still savoring that sweet coffee ~ well, they’re just yours ~ with God! Just to let that “ever so fragile” stillness linger and the aches and pains ease ~ maybe just a bit ~ and then just to lay it all out before Him and listen to His council and advise for the day. He’s sure to let you know just what He’d like you do and just how to go about it. You can be sure that your weakness won’t hinder and that He won’t ask the impossible of you and whatever He requires He has already equipped you for. So ~ no worries, no frets! Not today! Just find that “God confidence” and let Him grace you with His supernatural power. Let Him lift you over the hurdles and the high places. Rest in the quiet moments with the Light and shine in the dark. Let hope rise within your beautiful soul and watch it bloom today through the aches and pains ~ The broken heart ~ The deadlines and the fears.

2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Mundane Monday

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So on a mundane Monday where to begin sweet people? Cheer Up! There are beautiful things in store and a thankful heart is a great start to the day ~ so through it all; the hurt, the pain, the worry, the frustration of just life ~ take a minute to be grateful. Grateful for the breath that you just took, and the presence of mind to know that you hurt and for those good things that you have that can frustrate you and cause worry to surface. Those worries are things you really care about aren’t they? So let selfishness go and be glad for them! We really have a lot if we look at the good side of our pain and cultivate hope in our despair. It’s Monday, a new day ~ a new week ~ a clean slate, so fill up the empty tank with thankfulness and run the race with joy in your heart. God promises to meet you and fill you and give you peace. Run with Him and for Him, not against Him! After it’s all said and done mundane Monday hind sight o might not be so bad after all.

Philippians 4: 11
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
