Brighten This Chapter

Some days are topsy turvy aren’t they? Actually, some seasons of our lives are that, and if you’re like me, your mind may be going in all directions at once, not get anywhere fast.

When it becomes difficult to find focus, our story can get complicated. We need to take our thoughts captive and guard our hearts and minds. Let’s brighten the chapter of our story with a happy thought on even just one blessing for the moment and remind ourselves of Philippians 4:7,

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

He promises peace in the chaos and when we have peace we have focus.

Be Still

So today, maybe we all just need to inhale God’s grace and exhale His praise. Maybe we all just need to sit still in His presence and recognize who He is and what He means to us in all of our ups and downs, highs and lows, in and outs, faults and all.

Yeah, so maybe it’s a hard day of j nothing but “All gone wrong” and everything seems so misshapen and out of sorts.

Where’s the joy when the world’s in a mess and your world follows close behind in its messed-up footsteps? The joy you knew yesterday took a dive into the deep and it kinda seems like it’s gone forever. Here in this dreadful “now” moment, you’re emptied of emotion and the pain felt in the heart can’t feel the hurt anymore because it’s just too weary to feel anymore.
Where do you go when worries have numbed your spirit and hung your beautiful soul out to dry? Where is your refuge when your world hangs by a thread, and the thing you feared most has taken its position? The Psalmist in Psalm 46 tells us,

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though it’s watered roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Beautiful one, when all is lost, the Psalmist goes on to bring words of hope to the reader,

“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the Holy Place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day…Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Oh, what comfort for our crumpled spirit and our broken world. God is in charge and He will be exalted in your situation and in your circumstances if you rest “Still” in Him and know that He is sovereign overall. Rest then today ~ right now ~ you who are broken, and shattered in your brokenness, just be still in Him.

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.”

Psalm 46:10

Our Forever Friend

Yeah, so life can get in the way sometimes can’t it? Messy Stuff comes out of nowhere and lands right in our lap and leaves us feeling not so capable of managing the moments staring us in the face.

When stuff happens we so much want to run and go and be and do and control and make it work and fix it, even though we haven’t got the slightest idea as to how. In ignorant exuberance, we so often then, make more of a messy situation, than we dared think of.

Oh, aren’t we so delighted to know that our God, the Master Creator of this brilliantly put-together universe and our giver of life itself, is the One who runs after us when our world runs out and our stuff gets messy? Yeah, When things go sour, He runs with outstretched arms of grace and hands of healing and mercy to our aid, if we only stand still and let Him catch up!

Even then, after we’ve made a complete mess of it, He steps in and says,

“I can fix it for you! Let me!”

And He does! I love how He does it, don’t you?

Isaiah 12:2
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation.”

Lamentations 3:25
“The LORD is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;’

Paintbrush of Red

Some days the pain goes way deep and the hurt is really real and really hard and the heart hurts and the head hurts and the soul cries and the tears flow and the days are just so overwhelming.

In these anxious-filled, difficult moments, we have an Author writing our lives with pen in one nail-pierced hand and a divine paintbrush of grace-filled red in the other. His blood was shed for us and yeah, He paints our story beautifully now because of it.

He’s our Saviour and He’s made a way for us to make it through this hard place! Only because of the cross, His death, and His life can we have hope and do this hard thing, defying us and staring us in the face. So whatever it is He’s written and writing and hand-painted for your story, you gotta know He’s got this and His sustaining grace covers it for us.

So beautiful you with a beautiful soul, At such a time as this, He is our Healer, our Protector, and our Provider through it all and all the way to the cross He proved it. Now, just hand those anxious thoughts, that fear, disappointment, and deep hurt over into the Saviour’s pierced hands, the one and only Author of our faith who paints our story so perfectly; so beautifully perfect for us at such a time as this! It’s ok then to just breathe and rest in His care and safekeeping and know the promise of Romans 8: 28 is Truth!

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
