Mom Awards?

So you’ve just wiped up spilled milk, scrubbed crayon off the wall, threw in your fourth load of wash for the day, wrestled up a quick, nutritious lunch for your hungry brood, kissed a hurt and sealed it with a band-aid! You’ve rocked, and lulled, and sung sweet lullabyes, while all the while just wanting to have a spare minute for yourself but you can’t find one anywhere. The day wears on and the hours are tedious and so the same with whines, and cries, and fussiness and wet diapers, and quarrels, and how come no one ever told you that motherhood assigned you referee credentials? So, you’re a mom, and when you signed up for parenthood, you were unaware of it’s strange mix of excitement, fear, joy, panic, happiness, sorrow, fun, or anxiety. But it is and there you are right up there in the top ranking of it all, and it’s awesome but it’s scary, and it’s sheer delight but it’s frustration, and it’s rewarding but it’s so time consuming. Oh so time consuming!!

Yeah, motherhood; there’s really nothing like it on the planet! It’s challenges are out of this world and it’s rocked yours to the moon and back. It’s got you booked solid ~ hook, line and sinker and drowning in it’s many demands! The hats you wear are ridiculously impossible most of the time and your sanity? Well, it’s gone south for a break and right now as you think you might go under for the very last time, know that you won’t! You won’t because motherhood job is the toppest of the top notch jobs in the whole wide world. You’ve been entrusted with gifts from heaven, all delicate ‘little life’, wrapped up and so tenderly placed in your lap. And there you are!! Smack dab in the middle of days that don’t end and nights that don’t sleep. Maybe laced with depression and baby blues and just plain difficult moments to endure. Hey mom, those gifts of life are yours to cherish, to love, and to nurture, guide, teach and train and when that journey overwhelms your beautiful soul, remember King Lemuel’s mom had some good words of advice for him in Proverbs 31: 10, 17, 25, 26, 28. She told him exactly how fortunate he would be to find a women of noble character just like you. You may be tired and exhausted but know beautiful soul, your value is outstanding…. “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies…….she sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks…she is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue….Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her.”

God hasn’t promised pastel rainbows for your days of motherhood, in fact some days might just well be purple and red mixed with blue, but He has promised joy to the mom who seeks Him and grace for the one who walks the ho – hum of the daily journey by His side. No, your rewards won’t necessarily be seen nor given out today, there in your little kitchen nook, but your loyal works and your tedious steps will etch their memories into little hearts that will grow big and strong to become mom’s and dad’s of their own little gifts of life.

So mom, take heart! Your tasks performed faithfully today will navigate back and will find their way into your seasoned heart of hearts when all you have left are the memories of the long lost, good old days. So yeah, beautiful Mom, breathe and take a nap if you can but above all, enjoy these joyous but trying days of motherhood. They’ll be gone all to quickly. ❤

Tough Stuff

So life has thrown some pretty tough stuff at you lately and it’s not fun and it’s not easy, but we’re not here for easy. Yeah, ‘tough” has been thrown at us all in one form or another ~ Maybe many times over but this time it’s over the top and it seems like the way out has gone south on a one way ticket and doesn’t have any inkling to return. It’s left you high and dry and fried, but not “over easy.” Easy was never promised to follow us through this journey but God has promised us joy in spite of… and even though we must walk through the hard places we can experience an unexplained joy in the midst of the tough. The same LORD who spoke words of promise to Isaiah in 43: 1,2 speaks over us today when He says..
“But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you.”

So you see He knows your name and if you are His, those rough waters that threaten to pull you under and those high rivers and hot fires that threaten to drown and scorch, can’t drown nor scorch! No, beautiful soul, they can’t even touch us when we let our sovereign Lord carry us over! He sees, He knows, He cares. He’s a God of compassion, and mercy and grace and although He’s allowed some hard places, He hasn’t left you alone. What a blessed thought and a comfort of promise for the road today that you must travel. Tuck it into your heart for recall to refresh that beautiful, tired soul of yours in the early hours of the morning and in the late hours of the night. Ah yes, His grace will meet you right there and His protection will cover you and keep you when you are His and He is yours.

Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”

He’s Got This

So there might be a whole lot fear heaped up ahead on the road you travel right now and panic might be driving the motor car and it’s reeling out of chaotic control now, heading right to your doorstep. And there it sits heavy on your shoulders right in the middle of that heap of fear and it’s got you pinned underneath it’s weight and yeah, the old saying that “No news is good news” has changed because just maybe we got news and it wasn’t good after all. No news was better wasn’t it? And it’s processing in our heads and our hearts right now and it’s a difficult place with hard steps and I wonder what it is it that has caused panic and fear to emerge with such force to make you want to throw in the towel and run fast in the other direction? We can’t do it! We can’t run away! We can’t run anywhere because our story is our story and it’s us and it’s ours to deal with. So we can’t make a get-a-way except straight into the outstretched arms of Jesus and step into His peace, even right where we are! You gotta know He’s got this. Your stuff has been Father filtered and even though it’s tough, it has His stamp of approval for this moment. And even though it’s a hard place, He has it and He has your back and He has unlimited grace enough to get you through. So beautiful soul, when the brokenness is harsh and the news is bleak and the pain is unbearable, and the mind can’t focus, rest in the nail pierced hands of the Savior, the Sovereign One who knows the pain. Yeah, for sure the One who spoke peace into the vicious storms and calmed the raging waters can and will whisper peace into your life.

Mark 4: 38 – 40
“Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” And He got up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still.” And the wind died down and it became perfectly calm. And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”…

John 14: 27
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

His Planned Purpose

So you and I ~ Just when we think we’ve got our agendas all thought through and all planned out and all ready to put into action, our ears hear a still small voice and words from Isaiah 56: 8 saying, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.” And so we think twice about that little voice ~ or do we? Do we consider it or brush it off and press forward anyway? Yeah, God has spoken Truth into our aggressive souls and into our busy agendas and into our bold, brazen and prideful thoughts once again. Yeah, He brings us back to the reality of His Sovereign rule over us and over all of our ways and yet we’re so quick to turn away and go about our business.

But wait, beautiful you, there’s more beautiful truth for your beautiful soul, found in verse 9. Don’t miss it! It’s so important for us to catch and tuck away into our hearts, for such a time a this. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” He knows so much more than our small, human minds can even begin to understand. Read on to refresh your memory of how He alone, as Creator of heaven and earth, orchestrates the rain and the snow to fall from the heavens to water the earth with refreshment,  to restore with bud and seed for the sower and bread for the eater before returning back  to the heavens.

In the big picture He’s got it all. What a brilliant mastermind holds our lives in tact. Tuck that heart knowledge into your pocket for a rainy day when all seems lost. The One who recycles the rain and snow can recycle the loss and the pain too.  Ahh, those rainy days might come with a price but they also come with a purpose and oh~ He cares so deeply! He really does!   His word will not return empty but will accomplish what He desires. He Himself, says so in Verse 11. His plan is one of compassion for His people! He has a purpose for His own and a desire to see that purpose fulfilled in our lives. He cares about us and our agendas! Let’s not leave Him on the shelf while we run off outside of His plan with stars in our eyes to make success happen. Let Him in alongside to plan your plan and where He takes you from there will be a refreshingly, beautiful place to be ……

“You will go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and the hills will break forth before you,
and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn bush will grow the pine.
Instead of briers the myrtle tree will grow.”
Isaiah 55: 11
