So ’tis the season to be jolly? Is it really? Is it really a season to be jolly and joyful or do we find ourselves in a scurry of just clear crazy? With so much on the ‘Good-Will’ ‘to do’ platter, we might just find there’s too much conundrum on our own plate. How then do we quiet ourselves amidst this complete craziness of so much of everything to accomplish.
Chances are it’s not just the hubbub of Christmas festivities but other things too; other issues that creep in from the far corners of your world! They sneak in like creepy shadows, without invite, yet loudly proclaim their presence as they parade dauntingly through the mind. Intimidating they are, every step of this way and that and every way in between, they rant on and on and on. Things that go bump in the night and make sleep a thing of the past! Well, it’s just an anxiety here a tension there, a bit of strife and disagreement and our old enemy is boldly on deck, ready to snag us with a host of nonsense and issues to distract from ever seeing the ‘Merry’ in Christmas! So ok, ’tis the season to be jolly but sometimes the “Merry” is so far removed from our life that we even fail to find the “Christ” of Christmas.
Remember Him? He’s the Saviour of your day! Your life, your week, and your busy season of life. So, ok, beautiful one, as His child, whatever season you’re in, you can know He’s walking it with you! Right along beside! So whatever you do right now, collect your messy thoughts and usher your busy, crazy world right into His sweet and powerful presence for some healing and some quiet. So now, there you are with your whole heart, smack dab in the presence of your amazing God, Maker, Creator, Savior and Lord. What now? Well, just savour the moments with the Saviour and find His grace enough to dissipate those fears hidden in the shadows! Yeah, You’ll find enough peace there for the hectic, enough mercy there for the miles you’ve trod, enough healing to rejuvenate the weary! You’ll find enough grace there too, for the moment, enough Light there for road and enough hope there to keep you on keeping on!
Oh yeah, and that ‘good will “To Do” platter? Well, relax with it, it will be full and running over, just like your heart of joy and gratitude to the One who cares so deeply for your beautiful soul.
So, beautiful you, when the busy gets up and runs off, running crazy in the days ahead, take a ‘time out’ to get alone with the One who knows you upside and downside and confirm with the Psalmist as he pens in Psalm 97: 10 b, “He protects the lives of His godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked. Light shines on the godly, and joy on those whose hearts are right.”
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:: 28 – 30
So life has thrown some pretty tough stuff at you lately and it’s not fun and it’s not easy, but we’re not here for easy. Yeah, ‘tough” has been thrown at us all in one form or another ~ Maybe many times over but this time it’s over the top and it seems like the way out has gone south on a one way ticket and doesn’t have any inkling to return. It’s left you high and dry and fried, but not “over easy.” Easy was never promised to follow us through this journey but God has promised us joy in spite of… and even though we must walk through the hard places we can experience an unexplained joy in the midst of the tough. The same LORD who spoke words of promise to Isaiah in 43: 1,2 speaks over us today when He says..
“But now, thus says the LORD, your Creator, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are Mine! “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, Nor will the flame burn you.”
So you see He knows your name and if you are His, those rough waters that threaten to pull you under and those high rivers and hot fires that threaten to drown and scorch, can’t drown nor scorch! No, beautiful soul, they can’t even touch us when we let our sovereign Lord carry us over! He sees, He knows, He cares. He’s a God of compassion, and mercy and grace and although He’s allowed some hard places, He hasn’t left you alone. What a blessed thought and a comfort of promise for the road today that you must travel. Tuck it into your heart for recall to refresh that beautiful, tired soul of yours in the early hours of the morning and in the late hours of the night. Ah yes, His grace will meet you right there and His protection will cover you and keep you when you are His and He is yours.
“The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”
So let the worries go today. You know God has them but He won’t help you out from under the load of them until you give them over. When our mind is on overload and weighted down with heaps of stuff and a lot of it only a part of our wildest imaginations the enemy has you right where he wants you; Weakened and zapped of energy and strength. Defeated and down! You won’t function at peak levels, so beautiful soul, you gotta give it all you’ve got and one more time, aggressively hand it all over to God for keeps this time. Dole ’em out, and hand ’em over! All the struggles, the torment, the pressures, the problem relationships, the impossible employment situations, the sleepless nights, the financial crisis, the kid issue, the health report, that nagging worry that could very well be just a figment of your own imagination, your pet peeves, your jealousy and all that nonsense that just slowly eats away at your peace of mind stealing your joy and robbing you of hope. So ~ let it go and you, yourself, float right into those ever merciful and loving arms of our Lord, who desires to see you at rest in Him. The One who desires to grace you and love you with His vast and deep love! You know it and so act on it and in obedience trust Him for it all. Worried, anxious, nervous, on edge? Ask His direction and listen to the still small voice that He speaks from the incidentals and quiet moments that come about within your day. It will boggle your mind, how He leads in His quiet, “still small voice” way and at the end of the day when you put your feet up and find peace in your busy soul, you will say “That was God!” and you will hear Him say, “Yes it was! Trust me for tomorrow too!”
“And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” 1 Kings 19:12
“It stopped, but I could not tell what it was. A form stood before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice.” Job 4:6
“So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6
