Prodigal Victory

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
Proverbs 22:6

Parents are advised in scripture to begin training children in the things of God from their early days onward, because it establishes a firm foundation on which they can build their lives. As parents, we are to Saturate their lives with the things of God through example, teaching, prayer and the Word of God. We are to impress upon their mind the salvation story that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Yeah, we are, and that example simply means just that, how we live!

It pains me to see the choices that kid’s make and yes, sometimes adult compromise and friends lead them down the garden path of pleasure, quickly leading them astray and away from the truth that they once knew and maybe even treasured in their heart in their younger years. Even when they’ve been raised in a Christian home, sometimes kids just have to try their wings and go their own way for a time. There’s nothing any more difficult for a parent to watch than the consequences of children fulfilling their passionate pleasures, even though they know better. There is nothing like the school of hard knocks to refresh our memories of what we know to be right and wrong and thankfully God gets our attention when we refuse to live in obedience to Him. He may allow very difficult times, but He will get our attention. It may not be pretty, but it will be perfect and just the right thing, at just the right time.

It’s what we’ve taught our children that comes back to soften their hearts in their down and out moments…If they’ve not had the spiritual teaching and training or the example of godly living, life becomes seemingly futile without hope during the consequences of sinful living. Oh how we need to teach them the things of God, and pray for our kids that God will fulfill His purpose in their lives. If you’ve a child that has gone astray, You have to trust the Sovereign God to take that child under His wing of protection and then keep praying….Claim His promises and watch for the victory.

These hard place are not yours to think about for their only pot holes that trip you up and block you in your journey on life’s way.  Anxieties steal your hope, rob your joy and take your peace.  So beautiful soul, Shake them off!

Look today to the gift of the cross!  That horrendous place of agonizing death and blood shed on that Calvary hill where our Lord took our place and freed us from the oppression of sin and all that goes with it in this life.  Look to the cross and celebrate that scandalous event of blood shed, and know that it was all for us, for our forgiveness and for our freedom from the bondage that has us so anchored down. Go on ~ celebrate the cross of Christ for what it is and what it means to our wretched, beautiful souls, but then look beyond its agony to see its beauty and the hope of heaven that it brings to those of us who believe. Ah yes, beautiful one, those anxieties, those hard places, those difficult steps of the day, are all part of this sinful life but not to be handled by us. So give them to the one who did the difficult for us and carried the cross!  To the One who handled the cross and managed the rejection, the pain, and the ultimate death at the hands of human brutality. Jesus is He who died selflessly and conquered death and sin and shame and ~ beyond death, rose to victor over it! It’s glorious isn’t it? So you see, we win! We do, you and I! We’re the winners over the rough spots, over the sin, over the snares, over the pot holes, over the hopelessness. The anxieties? God holds them in safe keeping for you. He’ll lock them up and work them out. He offers a scenic detour around all of that stuff and beautiful soul, it’s a beautiful view. One that you don’t want to miss. So today, Look to the cross, but then beyond it, look to its beauty; that of the hope of eternity and press on keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus the author of our faith!

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

Promise To Protect

Psalm 18:1, 2.
“For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

God’s promise to protect His people rings loud and clear through the ages and pages of history and still remains strong for us to claim today. He had rescued David from his enemies and David was filled with gratitude and awe for God’s hand of protection and divine intervention. In these verses he used five military symbols to characterize God and His divine care. He is like a rock (safety) that can’t be moved by anyone who wishes to harm us. He is a fortress (a place of peaceful defense) where we can find rest yet the enemy can’t follow. He is as a shield coming between us and danger. He is as a horn of salvation; a symbol of might, power and victory and a stronghold, lifting us high above our enemies.

Oh beautiful soul, What an awesome place to be in times of trouble when the enemy is preparing weapons for battle against us. In such times we must remember God is all we need! He is “ALL” we need! His love is steadfast, faithful and unending. His love is secure, His grace is sustaining and immeasurable and yeah, His victory is already won! If you will find rest in Him you will find peace, because Isaiah 54: 17 gives the promise that no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the LORD.”

Our God is a faithful God and in His almighty hand of deliverance, and sure victory we can join in David’s victory and praise as we find protection, shelter and salvation from the storms that threaten.

Will The Real Enemy Please Stand Up?

  • If only we could only grasp the fact and come to a full understanding that while in the heat of our battles our struggles with one another are not really with one another at all, but with the enemy himself in the unseen dimension of spiritual forces. In the middle of discouragements, anxieties, power struggles, deceptions, and all the horrendous battles we face, it’s the old enemy and deceiver who has gained a foothold and is doing all in his power to bind us in our strongholds of selfishness, pride, resentment, bitterness, anger, strife and unforgiveness. He knows how to render us ineffective and will target us in our weakest moment and at our weakest point. We must be on guard, alert to his strategies, ready to take our stand and stand our ground against him. It’s crucial to daily wrap ourselves in the full armor of God. To stand on God’s righteous Truth, grounded with peace, clothed and protected with the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and God’s all powerful Word; the sword of the Spirit. Notice, there is nothing for our back. A good indication that we are not to run from the problem by protecting ourselves with lies or calling judgement on others. Rather, we are called to simply stand firm in God’s confidence, trust Him, make the right choices, do the right things, and watch Him deliver us into victory.

Christ out-witted the strategy of the Prince of the power of the air, milked the serpent of his venom, out-thought the thinkers, out-fought the fighters, outclassed the mighty and asserted His universal Lordship. Jesus Christ is Lord; Sovereign and omnipotent. Ruler and King of Kings.

Let’s raise the banner of God’s sovereign majesty and fly His victorious flag, high for all to see…His victory is our victory! Let’s claim it for our lives for it’s through His victory that our marriages become stronger, our homes become happier, our families become more stable, our children more secure, our churches more spiritually alive and personal lives more solidly grounded, more mature in the faith. Put on that full armor before you face your day, remember His faithfulness and His promises and step out under God’s banner of victory!

    Ephesians 6: 10 – 13

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand and after the battle you will still be standing firm.”.

    Psalm 91: 1, 2, 4a.
“Those who live in the shelter of the Most High, will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He alone is my refuge, my place of safety. His faithful promises are your armor of protection..”
