Fall Cleaning

So it’s Fall, and let it begin. There’s a whole lot of summer behind us and a lot of stuff left back there; some of it wonderful memories left in the dust of a fast – paced and busy, hectic life style and yeah, some of it not so great and that’s for sure.

For now a new season lies ahead! A time of harvest and yielding fruits. A new time of rejuvenation and preparation before the long winter sets in. Ah, yes, beautiful soul! How is it? Beautiful, just the way you like it? Or a little on the down slump? How’s your heart? How’s your mind? Weary, tired, restless, and longing for something deeper, something more meaningful, other that the same old, same old, that’s sure to creep in and join up with you in this new season in life?

Sometimes it’s difficult to step away from what’s behind and leave it where it should be left. Those worries, anxieties, those hard places that knocked and those insensitive people who pulled you in and dragged you down into their misery! After all, some things just need to be carried forward and dealt with don’t they? Or do they? Maybe some things surely can be left behind! If they can, then indeed, leave them and walk away.

Things still need attention? Then this new bold season, vibrant with color, is the perfect time to take care of them, so face them head on! All those instances of unconfessed sin, painful hurts, crushing disappointments or maybe just a plain old discontented spirit, needs a new start. Forgive, be forgiven, forget and move on into the bold, vibrant colors and beginnings of a new life, and a new season. The beauty of fall awaits to be seen with new insight, through the clear eyes of the soul, a clean heart and a forgiving spirit. So time out today for a Fall cleaning! Take out the garbage and leave it at the roadside for pick-up! Walk on free in Christ and prepare for harvest in your life and in your ministry. Prepare for harvest, within your home, your family and your relationships and circles of influence.

The Psalmist says and reminds us in the very first chapter of the book of Psalms how blessed we are as followers of Christ, when he says in verse 1, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by the streams of water which yields fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither….” Yeah, we must prepare our hearts for harvest and maybe do a deep cleaning but it’s well worth it to be like the well-watered tree planted by the stream ‘cuz our leaves won’t wither in the seasons of life. Yeah, beautiful you ~ We are blessed and beautiful souls if we delight in the laws of God and meditate on Him day and night and through all seasons of life.

Victorious Temptation

Tough seasons come and go don’t they? When they come they hit hard and huge and our first thoughts are not always of the enemy and how he gets in to wreak havoc with our souls. No, we don’t always think of his sly techniques and his outright lies whispered into our hearts! We don’t often see clearly just what’s happening above our heads in the unseen world around us. I find it so intriguing in Matthew 4: 4, that Jesus, after he had been baptized by John and stamped with God’s approval, through His Spirit descending like a dove to light on His shoulder, was then led by this same Spirit of God into the wilderness to be trained for spiritual duty. How was He trained? Yeah, through fasting and prayer but also through rigorous demands of the Devil, the enemy himself. This perfect, spotless, sinless One, confirmed by God to be His beloved Son, was taken to the cleaners after he was taken to the wilderness, to be weakened with hunger! Our old enemy was our Lord’s enemy as well, those forty days and nights as he tempted Christ to show His credentials and turn stones to bread to satisfy hunger. Jesus answered him well, in verse 4, “Man does not live on bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” So devil, that didn’t go so well, did it?

Second round then and a visit to the Holy City, to stand on the highest point of the temple and then, sly guy that he is, our enemy quoted scripture from Psalm 91:11, in verse 6, as he blatantly tempted Jesus to throw Himself down, “For it is written:

“He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike Your foot against a stone.”

Ahh, but Jesus also had an answer, “It is also written: “Do not put the Lord Your God to the test.”

Yet, a third temptation was put forth from a very high mountain with an offer of all the splendour of the Kingdoms of the world and again Jesus answered, this time with a rebuke, “Away from me Satan! for it is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”

So when we’re on a rough road and the way daunting and we find ourselves at our weakest point, weary and worn from the boot camps of life’s training and then, when selfish passions make their play for us, remember who the enemy really is! Remember he was even brash enough to quote scripture to Jesus in His wilderness weakness, to get his way and ultimately attempt to take Our Lord down.

He’s roamin’ about now! He does the same to those that God has called forth and stamped His approval on. The enemy prowls around seeking whom he may devour but, At Christ’s word to leave, the devil left and angels came and ministered unto Him. So yeah, God’s own spirit leads us into some troublesome times but only to prepare us for troublesome times, and we can know if He’s taken us to it, He’ll take us through it and what a glorious moment when He sends His angels to minister! Oh yeah, it’s a glorious time when God’s angels care so much for our weakened, beautiful souls.
