Unruly Pride

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

Don’t you wish you could just drop it at your feet and trample it to mush ~ the pride I mean? That unruly, rascal that keeps resurfacing to the top in your life and leading you astray with it’s deception? What makes it “So There” all the time? Just when you think you’ve beat it, it’s back with a vengeance undermining your desire for humility before God. How do we tell it to get lost and leave us alone? The most amazing thing is that God understands it and it’s plight and best of all He’s willing to keep taking it, helping us with it and helping us reduce it to rubble. Only He can do it though, so don’t forget to ask Him daily to take that unhealthy, unruly pride that just seems to be there! Lay down that rod, that fear of failure, that insecurity, that crutch in your hand, all the subtle elements of pride as well as boastful pride and allow His confidence to rise up within you and move you forward in His divine direction with divine guidance.

Galatians 6: 3
“For if any person thinks himself to be somebody [too important to condescend to shoulder another’s load] when he is nobody [of superiority except in his own estimation], he deceives and deludes and cheats himself.”

Proverbs 3: 5
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.”

Making Your World “Go Round”

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So, what’s on your “Go To” list? Those things that you think you can’t live without and the things that completely consume your thoughts, either in worry or pleasure? The things that you spend your money on and trick you into thinking their possession will satisfy your craving? The friends that allow you to fit like a glove and help you to blend in with the wallpaper regardless of their influence? The higher step on the ladder of success at all cost and maybe at someone else’s expense? All these things can make our world “Go Round” yet subtly consume our energy levels leaving us completely exhausted both physically and spiritually. When they become our passion they become our pride and our god! Remember pride comes before a fall so take care to stay balanced in all the good things of life. Practice the balancing act by beginning your day with God and letting Him in on your thoughts and plans. He already knows what they are so let Him help you with that. Be challenged to go deeper with Him in your faith walk! Give it all over and find that precious peace that results in letting go!

Exodus 20:1-26
“And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. “You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,”

Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Me Myself And I

Philippians 2: 3, 4

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

In the midst of their persecution Paul encourages the Philippians to be humble and to live a life like that of Christ, who was the perfect
example of humility. Self – centeredness and arrogance are not acceptable behavior patterns and have no place in the believer’s life. Watch a two-year old at play and see how irritating the “It’s mine” attitude is! Yet how often do we” Mature” adults confine ourselves to a small box called “self?” How often do we crawl in, close the door and
have to have it “my” way or no way? How often do we turn everyone’s world upside down because things aren’t right for us? Selfish, childish behavior does not have any interest, any sensitivity, or any compassion for another. Arrogance and jealousy tears apart and has no word of encouragement for one who has done well, or for one who needs a confidence boost. What a sorry sight “self” is and what destruction selfish ambition causes in a ministry, a church, a life, a family or a friendship. If the shoe fits lets wear it and cease from playing games with ourselves, or preying on the successes or failures of others to get ahead.

Paul’s advice is good advice for us to follow. Let’s be challenged to focus on Christ’s humility as we strive for unity among ourselves and yes within ourselves.
Enjoy a sweet and blessed day my friends.

Growth In The Wilderness?

James 1: 2, 3, 4

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith has been tested your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed you will be perfect and complete needing nothing.”

Our journey in the Christian walk is a narrow path of many different landscapes, distracting us from our focus on the Lord. The refreshing heights of success can make us proud and high-profile for temptation and set us up for a fall. The flat lands can be calm, but temptations rise where boredom lurks, enticing us to excitement. The valleys can be devastating as we encounter some of the lower than low moments in our lives, but it’s in these heights, these depths and these mediocre flat lands of nothingness where rare beauty lies waiting to be discovered and where the Lord calls us away to test our faith. It’s in the low places of failure and discouragement where our weary souls find restoration in His loving embrace, as we submit to His will. If we remain faithful and true to our God and His Truth we will emerge from our valley refreshed and rejuvenated, having grown in the maturity and the wisdom of Christ, our Savior and our teacher.

That for which we strive for as a believer, or our goal is to grow in Christ. Trials then, are reasons to celebrate with the inner joy of the Lord in our hearts. Let’s not lose sight of this precious and most valuable truth.
