Advent In Your Heart

So it’s a beautiful, Advent season with peace and joy and happiness oozing in all directions and wonderful things are going down all over the world and in yours right? Not!!!!

It’s a crazy, mixed up world and yours is too and peace is the laughing stalk of the town right now! How is it that we’re to have peace when the world’s in chaos and the countries are at war and the bombs are dropping and the refugees are fleeing and ISIS is taking and lives are being sacrificed and there’s no respect for anything or anyone anymore?

So ~ government laws are passed that are way out of Biblical bounds and have far reaching and detrimental impact on future generations, and we’re suppose to be ok with that? Yeah, it’s a crazy world and the governments are oh so powerful but oh so weak! So ironic isn’t it?

Advent

But come now again to Bethlehem! See the babe lying quietly in the manger. Look at Him! See for yourself! Our joy doesn’t lie in our governments and in our world leadership. Our peace doesn’t come from all that goes on around us, not even for a second. Our joy doesn’t lie in our happiness! It’s deeper than that. It’s stronger than that and it’s more accessible than anything this world can offer. As Christ ones, a Savior was born to us on that night long ago, under a Bethlehem star, so bright it lit up the world to make the heavenly announcement of the birth of “Peace”, the Prince of Peace, the Eternal Father, The Counselor, God’s son. Oh yeah, He’s our peace at this glorious Advent season. Our peace in the midst of heartache, sorrow, panic and fear. He’s our joy when happiness goes South and everything that can go wrong does. Our Lord and our King carries the weight of the world on His shoulders and the governments are under His rule and His reign. Nothing will go down that He doesn’t order! You can know that! In spite of nasty world events and a world turned topsy tur-vy and bad laws being passed and bad news everywhere in a crazy, mixed up world, we have a winner ruling our lives and giving counsel for abundant living through all the ragged edges!

So, come now to a glorious, peaceful and joyous Advent season! It’s in your own heart! That’s where you’ll find it. Even when the world is reeling in anguish and joy is non existent, our beautiful souls can praise the God of our Salvation and sing “Joy To The World” to a world that has none and needs lots. Oh how marvelous are His works and how wonderful are His ways. ~k

Isaiah 9: 6,7
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.”

Level Ground

Psalm 143:10

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

I find it so interesting that David asks for God to lead him on level ground. Level ground is well-balanced and peaceful. Isn’t that the heart of God’s will for our lives? Balanced and peaceful even amidst difficulties. It’s so easy to over react to suffering and unfairness isn’t it? It’s so easy to be overcome with the desire to retaliate against those who have harmed us with words, gossip or cheap undermining. David knew he was being pursued yet he put His trust in God’s unfailing love.

It was here that he would know God’s peace, serenity, grace, protection and mercy. Do we, like David, know God’s will for us in times of distress? We need to ask God to balance our lives and bless us with these divine quality attributes found in Him, so that when danger lurks and enemies pursue, we remain balanced in God’s unfailing love and protection. There is no need to fight. No need to run anywhere but under the shelter of His wing. Now that is level ground! When we hide there, nothing else matters!

Offerings Of Praise

So when the thanksgiving celebration is over and the turkey is gone and the meal has been devoured are the hearts still thankful ~ or not? Do we still persevere and run the race in thankfulness or have we somewhere along the way picked up negative vibes of other stuff to slow us down, and push our gratefulness to the back burner? Pushed it to some out-of-sight, remote corner of our world where it’s dark and dismal? A place where anxious worry and fears, oh so real fears, tug at us from all the far corners of the earth and overpower our clear thinking? What is it that won’t let go of the mind so that you can find the peace you desire, and need? Yeah, we all have the moments when we forget to be thankful for the small stuff because anxiety trumps (no pun intended) our thankful spirit! Worry takes over life and we begin living in nooks and crannies of despair simply because it all seems so hopeless. There’s a whole bunch of us living there, in the crowded corners of fear, wondering our next move and what it should be! There’s no empty space! No clear way! No direct path out and so what’s one to do as a prisoner in your own body?

Beautiful you ~ Track back to that corner of gratefulness, wherever you left it and find the blessing in the bleak! Track back to the good and yeah, even the not so good and find the golden threads of promise that have held you together this long. Untie them! Unravel them and take a good, long look at what you hold in your hand. Promises of God? His love, His guidance, His faithfulness, His Blessings? Yeah, so many, some mixed in with hurts and disappointment because life is life but things that God used to make you who you are today. He doesn’t waste pain! He uses every trace of it to strengthen our weakness and pull us out and up from where we are to where we can be. He still cares and that’s reason to offer praise from even a hurting heart! An offering of praise to our creator is the best antidote for anxiety. David lamented while hiding in a cave, fearing for his life, and writes his heart felt prayer in Psalm 142: 5, “I cry to your O Lord; I say ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. Set me free from my prison that I may praise Your name.” and then He does just that in Psalm 145:1, “I will exalt You, my God the King;…great is the Lord and most worthy of praise.”

So yeah, today in that anxious corner find the blessing in the bleak and let praise pour out of your grateful heart to the One on the heavenly throne. The Sovereign One in charge and watch the fear dissipate and melt away from your mind! Enter into the land of the living once more and allow God to be your refuge and your portion!

Soul Soothe

So the journey is long and unsettled and the doubts are large and looming. Fear lurks in the little corners of your world, nipping joy in the bud or maybe aggressively approaches without warning, sideswiping you blindfolded if it fails to hit head on! Yet, here you sit on another day of trying to get it together ~ making decisions and hoping for right ones. Friends are like Job’s friends, probably best if they would remain silent or at least offer some sort of tangible encouragement. It seems like you just dealt with “that” and now “this.” World news is anything but good and your news? well ~ let’s just say you could do with a little bit better deal than what was just dealt! Where on this whole wide earth is life going and where is it taking you?

Beautiful soul, God speaks to you through all the stuff that’s got you! He only allows it to make your beautiful soul more beautiful and more strong and more graced and more faithed and more steady for still ~ the journey ahead. He hasn’t promised it easy but just to be in it with you and guide your way. So those decisions you need to make ~ just ask Him to lead and be obedient to follow! Remember the same God that spoke peace and calmed the wild waters and stilled the pounding sea speaks a sweet, gentle peace into your frightening moments and upheaveled uneasiness to calm and soothe your soul and smooth the trouble! So beautiful you ~ take heart and let God take control of this moment, the next, and the next and the day ahead.

Mark 4: 39
“When Jesus woke up He rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence, be still.” Suddenly the wind stopped and there was a great calm.”
So have faith today in the One who has authority over the wind and the waves and has you and has your stuff and has your back and has you covered. There’s hope there and peace there for those in need.
