Give It Over One More Time

So you and I and we and us, we sometimes find it difficult to just ‘let go’ of the heap of stuff that nips at our heels breaking into our day, and dragging on into the dark of our sleepless nights! We give it over and we take it back. Oh yeah, over and over again we do and time and time again these things trip us up and defy our faith and our trust in the God that we know really cares about us. He’s graced us with His favor in a lifetime of blessing and yet, these issues creep into the nooks and crannies and small moments of the day to steal from us. Yeah, they do! They rob us of joy if our eyes aren’t focused properly on the God in control of it all. Eyes fixed on the problems turn even small things into overwhelming moments, huge hurdles and big days to navigate through. Sometimes we may find that we don’t do so well on the journey and weariness sets in and looms heavy about our hearts and our heads. Well, beautiful soul, give it and all of it over once more to the God in charge! The One who holds you in the dark nights, in the storms, in the rough waters, and carries you through the fire unscathed and unharmed. He knows you through and through; your fears, your worries, your insecurities, your weaknesses. Yeah, He made you from scratch and no one understands you like He does. Let Psalm 139: 13 -14 refresh your memory for now, let it sink in deep. “Certainly you made my mind and heart; you wove me together in my mother’s womb. I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly;” Did you get that? His deeds are awesome and amazing! You are His creation ~ yeah, awesome and amazing you and you can know that not one thing will touch you that He doesn’t allow. So tuck that under your soft pillow tonight and rest on it. Relax in His presence and focus on God’s goodness. He knows you inside out and He got solutions for all that information overload jammed into your mind and all that heap of stuff on your plate. Breathe and ask His counsel. Don’t forget to listen. His words are wisdom and truth. He won’t lead you off track.

Isaiah 55: 8-9
“Indeed, my plans are not like your plans, and my deeds are not like your deeds, for just as the sky is higher than the earth, so my deeds are superior to your deeds and my plans superior to your plans. For just as the sky is higher than the earth, so my deeds are superior to your deeds and my plans superior to your plans.

The Whole Armour

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So no, you’re not really sure what the day holds! As a matter of fact, you’re not ready at all and you’re not really sure about any of it and you’re not sure how you will make it through? There’s just a whole lot of stuff to wade through and a whole heap of unsettled issues that press in with threats and fears and worries and yeah, some unsettled issues may just press panic buttons to weaken your faith, setting you off course momentarily. Oh dear one, the enemy lurks about seeking where he might get his foot in the door, through weakness, so be alert for his undermining tactics of “take down” and defeat. Oh beautiful soul, we need the full armour of God for days like this. We need to garb up with God’s divine strength and courage, for the daily battles, so that nothing can hit us from behind or sideswipe us off our feet. Grab the Word of God! Put it on early and don’t leave home without it. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6: 10 – 11,13, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.… Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

Be alert
Be alert

Yeah, our enemies are mighty and plentiful and strong and our weaknesses many and great, but God is our strength and our victory! Praise Him for that! Put Him on today and saturate yourself in His grace and in His sovereignty and all knowing authority and power! He sees it all and understands it all. He has skills beyond our comprehension to fix and repair. If you’re on His side, He’s got you and the enemies will crumble under foot. Put on the armour of God and stand firm even when the day ahead threatens to be overwhelming.

Ephesians 4: 14
“Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.”

Hopeful In The Dark

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So I let one of my furry girls out into the rainy, early morning darkness and at this time of year I’m always afraid of skunks that might be lurking in the dark corners. One episode with a skunk can turn a whole world upside down in a matter of seconds as I found out a few years back! It was not fun and I dealt with skunk for a long while after the fact. This particular furry girl is getting up in years and at 14 doesn’t see or hear well, but is still pretty spunky in her actions, so she can be very illusive and I can’t call her back quickly, if she decides to run off. So ~ I let her go prancing off into the darkness as I stood holding my breath and hoping for the best. While waiting with teeth clenched in the tense stillness a beautiful chorus of early birds from nearby trees, presented their sweet, morning aubade for a brand new day. Their song occupied my mind and made the anxious wait just a little sweeter. In a few seconds I thought of a lot of things…. Oh Yeah ~ the world is in a mess for sure, and we don’t know just what’s around the next government corner or any other corner for that matter and just what does lurk in the darkness waiting to take us down in defeat, but it’s a beautiful world just the same. It’s a frightening journey sometimes, ~ this journey of life! And it’s difficult to stay focused on the good of it all ~ if there even is any good at all, because some days just seem like that. It’s a beautiful world if we see it with our soul eyes and through the eyes of a God who we know cares about us and for us. He’s graciously given us the beauty of things created for our enjoyment while we wait it out! But while we wait it out, let’s stay out of the dark corners as much as possible with ourselves and our minds and our worries and our cares and our concerns and our issues. Instead of going there, step out with God to the front porch and listen to the birds of His fabulous creation sing their sweet and beautiful song into our soul ears. Those same ears that hear Him speak sweet promises, gentle comforts, and awesome peace into our pain and brokenness.

My little furry girl returned just fine from around that frightening, dark turn and came bounding back to the door to safety. I picked her up to carry her down the stairs since she doesn’t see well enough on her own and all was good once again. No skunks, no issues and thankfully not a problem this time. Isn’t that what God does for us when we wander off into the complicated areas and into issues and make a huge mess of things, then come bounding back to Him? His unconditional love carries us with grace over the rough places and the uneven steps where we don’t see clearly in our humanness and ah yes ~ back to safety once again. Aren’t we thankful for His mercy? That’s what He does! I love how He does it.

Deuteronomy 23: 26, 27
“There is none like the God of Jeshurun, Who rides the heavens to your help, And through the skies in His majesty. The eternal God is a dwelling place, And underneath are the everlasting arms; And He drove out the enemy from before you, And said, ‘Destroy!’

Psalm 90:2
Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Little Faith, Big Faith

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

What impossibility hangs heavy over you today? Oh we all have our storms that rage and our mountains that we see way off in the distance as we try to muster courage to face them. We can live in doubt, fear or perhaps denial but sooner or later we reach them or they catch up with us and we know that now is the time that we must begin our steep accent or our walk on the water. You can do it, but not alone. If you go it alone, you set yourself up for mishap and misfortune and we’ve all been there at some point to know it’s not worth it! Yet, we forget who God really is in these crucial moments and like Peter walking on the water, we become fearful and take our eyes off of Christ! We look away from Him, into the impossibilities of the challenge that we face and so we begin to sink. As Peter was going down, he cried out to the Lord in Matthew 13:30, “Lord, save me! The Lord answered him in 31, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Then He took his hand and caught him.

Your storm might seem impossible, but God is faithful and you can trust Him to catch you. You can trust Him to get you through. I don’t know what you face today but stay focused on Christ, climbing the mountain! Remain calm, with eyes on Him, while walking on the water!
