Five Smooth Stones

Oh, couldn’t we do with a few slain giants today? Those huge obstacles that get into our thoughts, minds and hearts and try to take us down in defeat and leave us feeling like whipped puppies?

Oh, yes, those fears, anxieties and failures that just have a way of wrapping themselves around our little finger to blackmail us into their captivity, always present themselves, just when we think we’re making a little progress along the way. They creep out of the cracks like poisonous spiders, small but mighty, ready for attack, and we feel helpless to escape.

So, friends, that’s why we grab our five smooth stones of scripture to tuck into our pockets before we head out for the day.

David knew, didn’t he? He collected his stones and his words just before he went out to meet the big guy, the Philistine no one dared to speak of, let alone meet. In 1 Samuel 17:45-49, we find him reinforcing God’s faithfulness in action, when he states,

“You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s armies..whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.”

So, maybe the battle rages on within and without and you’re left without much to go on, but five smooth stones of scripture. That’s enough! Grab them! Tuck them into your heart! It’s all you need to face those big guys who are out to get you and trip you up.

Sand Paper Moments

A discouraging day is it? Yeah, there are some of those, when everything that can go wrong does and when it’s all said and done, it’s all said and done and you can’t change it or make it different but you can shake it off, move on and make a difference. Begin with an attitude check and a heaping dose of God’s grace to soothe the discouragement, disappointment and add some mellow to the harsh. Those sand paper moments are difficult but they come and sometimes they trick us into thinking we’re not good enough or smart enough or strong enough to make it. They sneak up on us and catch us off guard and if we’re not alert they can win it over us and run us down.

Beautiful soul, you are not defined by your successes, your accomplishments or yeah, even your failures. No they don’t speak into who you are! You are not who you are because you’ve made it or haven’t made it. You are you and who you are is God’s creation made in His image, and made beautifully to fulfil His purpose in your life. He hasn’t left. He hasn’t walked away. He hasn’t left you alone in the journey. He doesn’t do that! That’s not what He’s about!

Trust Him to meet you right where you are ~ in that heap of insecurity and not good enough. In that heap of impossible and over the top expectation demanded of you. Let Him take your load, your worry and give you peace.

Perfection Not Necessary

So, you know you don’t have to be perfect right? You don’t have to be supermom, or superstar or anything like that. All you have to be is you, all wrapped up in God’s love and wrapped so tightly in His grace and stamped with His mercy that you couldn’t bear to be without! Oh He’s got your story, your life and your imperfection and He knows just who you are and how you think. He understands your feelings and your thoughts so well, yeah, even so much better than you do.
So hey you! Relax and rest in His ever-loving favor and tender mercies. They’re new each morning you know. And find the beauty in your moments of imperfection and mistakes and failures. They’re not all that bad and they’re not all wrong, not all the time. And what is, can be forgiven and will be forgiven if we give it over and move on forgetting what is behind.to press on to higher heights. So you see, beautiful soul, imperfections or not, you are beautiful just as you are. Don’t ever doubt it!

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been perfected, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have laid hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.…”
Philippians 3:13

“Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning. … they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. … ”
Lamentations 3: 23
