New Year’s Resolution

New Year's Resolution
New Year’s Resolution

So here we sit with maybe some disappointments about the whole last year and maybe you thought you left the old baggage at the 20.15 terminal but it beat you to the 20.16 gate didn’t it? It arrived before you did and so here you sit on the brink of the first day of a new year and it’s the same old, same old. Wouldn’t you just know it? That’s because bad news travels fast, bondage doesn’t break easily and old habits die-hard.

Some things just didn’t go as planned and some things were left undone and some prayers weren’t answered and some things we just wish were different somehow. But they’re not, so ~ what do you do with that? Hey, you! There are things that we just can’t undo and some things that just can’t be made different by us. Those things we have to accept and place into God’s hand for good keeping. Habits? We can make our new resolutions and begin with every good intention to change, but the old stuff creeps back in as “Self” creeps off the altar of sacrifice. The loose end stuff creeps in to leave us reeling in guilt or fear or insecurity and disappointment and so perplexity reigns instead of peace and what do we do with that?
David knew all too well the evil about him, and invokes God’ s help while praising His character. He knew how to pray to our God of mercy and compassion. “Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer; answer me, for I need your help. Protect me, for I am devoted to You. Save me, for I serve You and trust You. Be merciful to me O Lord…..O Lord, You are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for Your help.” Psalm 86: 1,2,3a,5

So, beautiful soul, ask for God’s help as David did. Pray to our faithful God who understands all the chaos of your heart and knows about that baggage that haunts you even into the New Year. Pray David’s prayer or pray a personal prayer on this brand new day of a brand new year. Open the windows wide on 2016 and without a speck of fear or disappointment or frustration breathe in the fresh air and newness of life.

A new resolution? Yeah, for sure! Go ahead and let go of the past and step into peace with God.

I can choose to dwell on my insecurities, my weaknesses, my hurts, disappointments, my frustrations and the failures of my past, allowing the enemy to crush me under the weight of their load, or I can lay them at the foot of the cross with a broken spirit, stand back and watch God make beauty out of ashes as He weaves His golden threads in, around, over and through the confusion of my broken dreams. God doesn’t want my perfection, He only desires a humble, repentant and willing heart. His desire is to pour His unconditional love and grace upon me to bless me, and give me peace, but He won’t control me. He gives me the freedom to choose “His life” over the enemy’s death. The choice is up to me. ~k

Begin again and watch God do something new!

“Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. “Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 14: 18 – 19

Inside Out

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So when it’s all cut and dried it just seems to be one big complicated mess of trouble and suddenly your wonderful world has taken a tumble into inside out and wrong side up. You don’t know what happened, it just did. Trouble knocked on your door and you didn’t even answer but it pushed it’s way like an uninvited guest coming in unannounced and now there you are, in the middle of turmoil and any thing but peace. So what do we do in complicated situations when circumstances are beyond our control and springboards for strife and tension in the workplace, the home, relationships, and hostile surroundings? What to do? Where to turn when the hope that you had yesterday crumbles at your feet leaving your beautiful soul shattered and broken? There is healing for that ~ just when you think nothing could ever help or any good could ever come the Psalmist gives us sweet, assurance in Psalm 147:3 – 4, 5, 7, 12, as he recalls God’s leading of his people out of exile and His restoration of Jerusalem, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension…..Sing out your thanks to the Lord…..Glorify the Lord O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!”

So when your world has been crushed ~ God restores ~ He really does! He restores the ruined. Breathes hope again into complicated situations and offers healing for that shattered and broken, beautiful soul. Dismiss yourself from the unwelcomed guest and get alone with God to sort it all out and lay it all out before Him. Step by step He’ll lead you through! Just trust Him for that today.

“Joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth. The sea and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.” 146: 5, 6

Savor those words! Ponder them in your broken heart! Claim His promises! Psalm 146: 6 is a truth and a promise you can count on.

God Bless

Quiet Your Mind

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So you’ve had just about enough of whatever it is, and the issues are relentless to let go. Time after time you’ve given it over and time after time it’s always there, back again just like it was before. Staring you down, defying you ~ stubborn in its willful ways. It just won’t give and it won’t give you peace! How do you deal with such a wild beast that hunts you down, stalking you like it’s prey ~ waiting for you to drop by the wayside in heaps of weariness and conundrum? Chaos has blackmailed you and defeat has sabotaged you, and there you are left like a whipped puppy ~ so innocent in it all and yet so guilt ed by worry and fear. How do we let go of it all for the umpteenth time and really let go! A good beginning is to pull your thoughts into accountability. Take control of their wildness and the overwhelming power they hold over you. Quiet your mind before God; the God who knows all, and lets nothing slip by His watchful eye! Psalm 46: 1 reminds us so beautifully that yes, indeed, “God is our refuge and strength. A very present help in trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea…the Lord of Heaven’s armies is here among us, and the God of Israel is our fortress. Say with the Psalmist in Psalm 46:10 a direct message from God Himself, “Be still and know that I am God.”

So beautiful you, with your beautiful soul, quiet that mind of yours and feel your heart follow the tranquil pathway. Offer praise for the problem to the God in charge! Rest in Him once again and find peace

“Come everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome! He is the great King of all the earth. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet.”
Psalm 47: 1-3.

In The Shadows

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So despair has left you bent and broken, shattered and frazzled? No escape? What now? Where do you turn in your moment of it? In the long hours of it? In the days, the weeks, and the months of it? Maybe the years of it’s never ending chaotic twists and turns when it relentlessly hunts you down to tear you apart much like a wild animal stalks it’s prey? The heavy heart it carries makes it so difficult to move forward ~ to even take a small step let alone make it to some place of destination. Maybe the despair is depression itself that has you caught in it’s web, entrapped you in it’s sticky, circle of poison, relentless to let you go! Yes ~ for sure ~ What now? Sight and insight is limited with high walls ~ dark and cold! Choices are difficult! Thinking is impossible! Who can see through it?

Well, right there, and right now, know that you are loved by a God who is right there and right now beside you, ready to shelter you under His wing of protection and love you just for who you are, in that total mess and heap of confusion that you feel inside. He’s ready to carry you when you can’t move and bless you through the good and bad. He’s ready to grace you over the next step, the next hurdle, and through the deepest and steepest of valleys ~ just because He cares! When you can’t see past the shadows ~ even your own shadow, trust Him there ~ in the dark, for the sun shines and the Son shines bright in the shadows! Grasp the hem of His garment of love there even when it’s not felt nor understood ~ because it never will be understood. It goes beyond anything that we can imagine! It’s just the way God is and it’s His perfect presence there now ~ for you!

Ephesians 3:17-20
And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able through His power to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think
