Simple Trust…Confident Faith

Hebrews 11: 1.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”.

Hope is always in anticipation, always positive, always persevering, even in seemingly hopeless situations. When all looks bleak, we must measure our faith against the excellence of an all knowing, all sovereign Creator, who rules the universe with all authority and power. God gets into Red Seas, burning bushes, weddings, funerals, Galilean storms, wilderness wanderings and He can get into the heart of your problem and into the eye of your storm. That awesome power will break through for you in your lowest moment as you actively believe and confidently and boldly trust in an everlasting God who has promised all the richness of His glory to you. What corner of your world looks bleak and hopeless? Don’t succumb to it? Don’t give up on it! Establish that Hope deep within your soul that believes God will move in your situation, in His time and in His way. Accept it, believe it and move forward in that confidence.

Sweet Obedience

Psalm 119:60

“I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands.”

The psalmist seeks God’s favor and unfailing love. In Verse 59 he ponders his life and where it’s going. What direction it’s taking. He knows in his heart that God’s favor and blessing come by following His laws, precepts, statutes and commands. Though evil surrounds him, taunting him to fall into sin, he remembers God’s faithfulness and wishes to remain a loyal servant of the Lord. When it comes to keeping God’s laws and following His instructions, to drag our feet is to allow the enemy a foot in the door. When temptation knocks, we must run, not walk to the nearest exit. Prayer is the quickest, safest, most powerful, most sure and most reliable way out. It’s where we meet the One who died to free us from the ruin and folly that sinful pleasures drag us into. Run/turn to God in prayer. Since He’s everywhere we can pray anywhere with confidence that He hears and know that He desires to deliver us from the evil that stalks.

Let’s step our lives up a notch or two and hasten in obedience to keep the righteous laws of God. To follow His commands and allow His precepts for living to permeate and saturate our hearts, souls and minds. To do so brings abundant life and sweet and beautiful peace, free from chaos and confusion.<

Confident In Truth And Light

1 John 1:7.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

One of the first of many instances where John challenges the claims of those who had broken away from apostolic fellowship and were living in darkness. Those who claimed to have fellowship with God, yet didn’t display His character of light. Jesus had warned the Jewish leaders in His day not to let their own beliefs blind them and lead them astray from the Truth Matthew. 6:23. Gnostics claimed to have spiritual experiences and revelations from God, yet rejected fellowship with other believers who knew Christ and walked in the Light of His Truth. Sometimes we are so deceived by our own spiritual illuminations that we think we are so right to the exclusion of everyone else. Sometimes, we can be so right that we’re very, very wrong! When we walk this road we tread on dangerous ground. We run the risk of being deceived by our own belief system. We think we walk in the light but it’s merely our own perceptions and pride that hardens our hearts toward the True Light. A true, healthy faith in the God of our salvation, will result in sweet fellowship with Him and with others, because we have been purified by the cleansing blood of Christ. Light finds light, and finds consolation and confidence in Light. Truth lives boldly but darkness will run and hide when the pressure is on.

Clean Up!

James 1:21

“Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.”

I love the book of James! He’s so practical in his writing isn’t he? His book is full of suggestions that we can apply to our everyday living, in order to live abundantly, in step and in tune with God.

James is confident, that God has planted His word and His truth within our hearts, yet so often we avoid it and maybe even run from it. We choose selective hearing, choosing only what we want to hear, only those things that will satisfy our own cravings, pleasures and desires. When we compromise in our living this is the way we choose to live? It’s not that we don’t know what’s right. We do! We have a conscience that even gives us an alert, yet we ignore it! We know what’s right. We know what we should do, but we don’t do it, instead, we react against it and find ourselves dabbling with temptation. We do the wrong thing just because it looks enticing. It’s interesting in Verse 19 and 20 James speaks out on listening, speaking and anger and connects these things to this verse with a therefore. Read verse 19 and 20 to see how he applies it. By nature we are a rebellious and angry people defiled in sin. Only God’s Words can break through hardness to soften a heart and save us from ruin. We must put off the filthy, decaying rags that we wear, listen to His healing words within our hearts and follow in obedience.
