Where’s Your Focus?

Forty years of wilderness wandering plagued the Israelites because they listened to the report of ten spies instead of God’s promise to give them the promised land. They had experienced God’s miraculous works for their deliverance, yet still, rather than believing God’s promise and facing their enemies with faith, they were caught up in human deception and discouragement.

The giants occupying their land were huge and the enemies were strong, the challenge too dangerous, the risk too great. They refused to move out and take possession for fear of their lives.

They wept and wailed through their night with bitterness! They complained and grumbled about their plight! Why did we leave Egypt? We’ll die in this forlorn land! Shouldn’t we just go back? Wouldn’t it be better? Be safer? Wouldn’t it just be easier back in captivity? Those unfaithful, unbelieving, grumbling Israelites twenty years and older never made it into the land of promise because God saw to it that their unbelief would not be honoured.

Oh, the wilderness wanderings we face when we focus on deception instead of truth. When we focus on the giants instead of the promises; when we rebel instead of trust!
You know it don’t you? The wilderness of rebellion, unbelief, deception and despair? Does your old slavery and bondage to sin just seem more comfortable, easier, and safer than trusting God for deliverance? We need to move on out and take what God has promised through trust, while He still gives opportunity. Courage is found when we take God at His word and trust him even though the giants are many and the tasks impossible.

I wonder who we hear? The reports of people or the Lord’s promises to us.?

1 Corinthians 10:11
“For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

Peace On Earth

The angels proclaimed it at His coming and Oh can’t we all use a little peace today? Peace on the earth and peace in the soul? It’s one of the precious gifts He brought to earth when He came to heal the sin issues. Although the whole world doesn’t get it yet, the hearts and minds of those who invite Him in can! It’s a quiet sense of well-being even when all is not well.

Thing is when His people, His followers, experience such a precious peace, they can share it with a world in pain and help to make a difference. It seems we can hurt or we can heal through our choices, our actions, our behaviours and our words. Jesus came ‘kind’ to bring kindness and breathe peace into our chaos. Let’s go out ‘kind’ as He did and breathe even just a touch of His peace to others, through our words and actions. Today, He shows us the way of peace through His commandments and if we follow Him and focus on Him we won’t get lost in distractions!

Luke 2: 14
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Resting In The Promises

So it’s ok to just rest now. Rest in the promise of God’s peace. Rest your tired self, your broken heart, your sadness, your disappointment, your grief, your fear, your insecurity, and just rest all the other stuff that runs frantically to win the race in your mind. So much! Too much!

Yeah, but you can just rest in that precious promise of safety from our Lord because whatever it is that binds your mind with worry can be calmed by the Peace speaker. The Psalmist knew there was safety in His presence and he could sleep calmly and unafraid in peace, under God’s protection. So can we, regardless of what’s swirls around our heads, we can rest in the sweet assurance that we are safe in His keeping and that nothing can interfere with His plan. ❤

Shalom

Shalom and PEACE to you today!

Not only does our Saviour’s birth bring Hope, but His birth and very presence usher in a peace that passes all understanding! It’s a peace that transcends a fear of “What’s next?”, or the dreadful fear of ‘What’s going on?” It’s a perfect peace that the world can’t give and the world can’t take away no matter what this old world brings to our table. So yeah, really as serious as COVID is and as controversial as the vaccine is, and as many varied opinions as there are out there, they pale in comparison to the Peace that our Saviour offers to the very soul of us in our deepest distress. Because it’s all ok anyway isn’t it? If we know this one born to deliver the world from its sin, we know we’re in good hands in His safekeeping and as His divine prophetic plan unfolds before our eyes, it surpasses any crazy plan the world and its top leaders have in store for us. It’s a generous gifting from our Lord to us. Yeah, Jesus, Our Prince of Peace, came to share it with us and His sweet peace is not as the world gives but rather a sense of well-being welling up within ourselves. A peace that comes from our willingness to change and repent and do a turn about of direction. To walk with Him in His way of salvation and in His ways of abundance. It comes from simple trust in our Prince of Peace, the sweet Savior of the broken and hurting and those beaten and scarred and torn up by sin’s choices.

” Shalom” may His favour rest on you today as you seek Him and find healing in Him for such a time as this.“The LORD bless you, and keep you; The LORD make His face shine on you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance on you, And give you peace!

”Numbers 6:23-26
