Happy New Year

No Fear There
No Fear There

So there’s heaps of stuff and scary things happening with massive floodings, tornadoes and earthquakes throughout states and countries and now ~ now beheadings in Sweden and on and on it goes and yeah, where it stops nobody knows. Hope? What ‘s that in days like these? Days of shootings, bombings, lawlessness, wars, turmoil, strife, financial crisis and natural disasters on every front and at every turn. It appears that our world is being set up for knock down and its all just so messy and unnerving isn’t it?

Happy New Year!!

Ok, tell me how ‘happy” can make a comeback after all that’s been lost, even in the past year with so many victims, so many deaths, so many losses, and so few wins?
Paul knew losses all too well. He knew desperate suffering even for the sake of innocence! Imprisoned wrongly, yet his chains advanced the Gospel. He reminds us of it in Philippians 1: 12, “Now I want you to know brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the Gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.”
Oh yeah, he knew all about suffering but he saw the bigger picture and the golden lining that it came wrapped in! He looked deeper to find the good. Perhaps we can too! Perhaps if we look deeper than the scary surface of random happenings and deeper than the inevitable, looming fears and demands and threats that hang over the days of our lives, we can find the gold lining too. So go ahead and look! There’s no room for fear when we look for the good, the noble, the right, the true, the lovely, the pure and the admirable. Think on these things but don’t just think on them ~ practice them and the God of peace will be you. Philippians 4:8.

As believers, God’s got us and we’re on the victory side despite all the nasty stuff that sin brings into the picture. Sin? It’s rampant in this messy world and ruins and destroys all in its path. It’s surely taken us down it’s beaten path and taken its toll on our world and us and continues to destroy even the innocent. So unfair it is, but yet through all of this hardship, find, as Paul did, the joy and the courage to face the next moment and the next day and the next year and say with him, as he pens the words in
Philippians: 18, 20,21: “But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice……I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always, Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

If your days get scary, there’s still hope in that, because God’s got it and He is Hope for this old world and He’s got you and He has your gold lining all laid out wrinkle free in His perfect plan! It’s so peaceful there! Trust Him when the days are long and the nights are dark!

Burn Out

Advent
Advent

The excitement of decorating the Christmas tree comes early at our house and so our tree decor with it’s twinkling lights has been up since mid November! All was well for a time but the lights appear to be getting tired as they’ve had a couple of strands needing replacement to keep the tree sparkling at it’s best. Another strand now has just gone out leaving the bottom of the tree in the shadows. It seems to happen every year ~ burn out!! It’s quite frustrating to look and see a dark band or patch around a once beautifully lit, tree. It made me think that maybe that’s the way we are as we spend so much energy in preparation and by the time we celebrate the Heavenly Birth our twinkle is gone and our sparkle has dissipated into burn out. We’re worn out and the lights have dimmed or perhaps gone out altogether. On this Eve of Christmas, Make sure to relax and breathe and let the grace of God bring blessing and healing as you revive and rejuvenate from your tired aching bones and weariness.

Healing For The World

 Advent

Advent

The world is in a dark state now with fear and apprehension hanging on much like a fog relentless to lift. We can’t believe the stuff happening around us and we’re quick to talk of the evil and how rampant it’s becoming in our world.

Remember the world has always been in a sinful state! Evil has always been rampant. Christ was born into this wretchedness where a ruthless and jealous King Herod ordered all baby boys to their death to stamp out the threat of the new “baby” boy child, the King; Jealousy kills, doesn’t it? The Christ Child posed a threat to an evil King controlled by jealousy.

Yeah, you and I, we’re sinful creatures by nature. Born into sin..Those that do not have a saving knowledge of the Lord as their Savior are controlled by their sinful natures where darkness rules! When darkness rules, others are affected and innocent ones suffer the consequences. Let’s remember, We are not an island..What “we” do affects others..It’s not just the shooter or the one that plays out the bombing that’s at fault here in this tumultuous world of ours, but it’s ‘us’ as well….in the choices we make and the things we do and in the behaviors and actions that we take on.

Enter the majestic Star of Bethlehem, the Christ child who was born as the Light Of the World! Born to bring the light of hope and glory into evil. He’s the Savior and the only one that can make a difference in your heart or mine…So…even in the darkness, His love shines the light of Hope into our bleakness and into our dark days and although the sadness doesn’t leave and the mourning doesn’t stop…the joy comes in the morning and it comes to our hearts and it comes to our homes when we know Him and His saving grace in a personal way!! He sees us through the difficult times as sketchy as they are.

Although God doesn’t order or cause the hideous world events, the enemy of sin always carries it’s natural consequences!consequences that can be harsh and brutal, because sin destroys!! These terrible happenings, should be our wake up call and get our attention long enough to shake us from the sleepy slumber of passive complacency…and our “Who cares? I’ll live like I want attitude”…

Beautiful soul, Instead of asking, “Why does God allow such terrible happenings?” Let’s rather ask ourselves, “What will it take to give us a desire for personal change and wake ‘us’ up and move us out into a needy world as mighty warriors for the King of Kings leaving behind our selfish ways?

It’s just something to think about at this reflective, Advent season.
And so we ask it one more time, “What will it take?” ~k

Matthew 5: 14, 16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Beyond Thanksgiving

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

Our Canadian Thanksgiving weekend is met with bleak news headlines and fb posts as I scroll through the pages. Wars and rumours of wars. Bombings before peace rallies and more deaths and more threats and more loss and more killings and more war and on and on it goes. It’s all so out of control and anything but stable in these precarious days of unknowns! And here it is Thanksgiving! How do we celebrate with thankful hearts? How do we praise God without guilt in these times of distress surrounding us? It’s easy to be thankful when we have safety and food and shelter and so much to be thankful for isn’t it? All that we have seems a little selfish doesn’t it? Seems a little off and out of whack for us in our land of plenty to be celebrating with feasts of turkey; stuffing our faces with food fit for kings when brothers and sisters are fighting for life itself and hiding from enemies to stay alive in their danger zones.

Out of hearts of compassion we can pray for the ruined and the people and lands and the hurting and the lost. We can rid ourselves of stubborn, selfish attitudes and realize that yes, we are blessed with a whole heap of good stuff and yes beyond measure too! We have so much and yet we complain when we don’t get what we want or when it gets tough and we meet with hardships and bumps in the road. Let’s remember dear ones, to be thankful to a Sovereign, all seeing, all knowing God who loves the world but hates the sin that brings the death. Let’s be thankful for His provision of salvation to a lost and dying world and let’s bring those in danger, fleeing for their lives, and struggling to survive before the Lord, every time we feel blessed of God and yeah for every complaint of ours, catch it off guard and stop it it’s tracks long enough to pray for those less fortunate in lands and countries of pain and not so plenty! God cares for them too and sees their hurt and knows their pain. Let’s make Thanksgiving truly count and yeah ~ be thankful for our stuff but let’s truly catch His vision for the hurting and the ruined and the lost this Thanksgiving! Intercede for them! Lift them up to His throne of grace as He brings them into your heart and into your beautiful soul.

Psalm 18:2
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Psalm 34:18
“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Romans 8:18
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
