Delight In His Direction

So it begins! Another whole new week with a lot of “What If’s’? What For’s? How Come’s? Why Now’s? Could I’s? Should I’s? I Will’s, and I wont’s! Oh yeah, the questions come a calling don’t they? .. Just parading through the beginning of a new day, a new week, a new start, like they crave attention and like they seek a stage to act on, just like they always do! ~ They leave us guessing on the next move, the next step, the next moment and the next turn. The why’s and the wherefore’s can be so daunting really, can’t they? They can be so overwhelming for our, oh so human, frailty and fragility. The thing is when they overtake us, they just out-right rob our precious joy right out from under our noses and take control of our hearts. Oh but beautiful you, our Lord delights in direction. He delights in giving it and He delights in our seeking his face for help on that next step. The Psalmist in Psalm 32: 8 knew it all to well didn’t he, when he penned our Lord’s words?

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Psalm 32:8

“Psalm 37:23-24 – “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.”

So yeah, He truly does set us stepping off in the right direction and oh He wants so much to dole out extra grace for those steps and wrap us up tightly in His ever-loving love. So, rather than looking at the obstacles then, let’s look into His gentle, tender face and into tender eyes that saw you from the cross and beyond.. Caring, sovereign eyes that stamped His approval on you before your creation. That’s why you’re here. He delighted in you and saw the potential and said it was good. So for all your daunting questions and thoughts, for sure, He’s got those too. He’s got your tiredness, your weary bones, your aching heart, your lonely soul, your rejection and he’s got all those relentless questions.. He’s working them out, so let’s seek His advice on our new beginnings, new days and new weeks and let’s find healing in the sweet name of Jesus and in His sweet presence let’s find peace for new beginnings.

Muddy Foot Prints

Ok, fellow sojourner in this journey of life; a new day is progressing and that never – ending joy of the believer, that supposedly never ends, has up and left and it’s left you smack dab, in the middle of your day. The biggest thing is, we don’t know where it’s gone, it’s just gone and the joy that we had a few hours ago has given way to grumpiness, sadness, criticism or a whole host of other unacceptable behaviours.

It didn’t knock and it wasn’t invited it just arrived and stomped on through to leave its muddy footprints all over the day, much like a dog coming inside from a romp on a rainy day! How does it happen? How does this uninvited and very unwelcome guest take it’s seat up front and center in your very well planned day? It could be our eyes got off course and our focus became fuzzy. Our thoughts of the Lord and His almighty hand of blessing got derailed by some unruly thought.

Our enemy is out to rob us of the joy and defeat our good intentions. He’ll use the least little thing to distract us and make a really, really good day go south really quickly. Don’t succumb to the enemy’s lies. Be alert! Nip those thoughts in the bud to keep them from sprouting forth into bloom and dismiss him from your presence! Jesus had His day with the devil too, when he was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil, Matthew 4:1, and in Matthew 4:10, He gives clear rebuke to His adversary when He says,

“Away from me, Satan!” Jesus declared. “For it is written: “Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.”

Matthew 4:11 tells us, “Then the devil left Him, and angels came and attended Him.” Ah, we love happy endings don’t we? Those sweet angels that minister God’s grace and mercy in such timely fashion are there for us too!

So beautiful one, when our sneaky adversary comes knocking without invite to steal our joy and when the temptation overwhelms the mind, let’s say those powerful words as Christ said, in His biggest moment of temptation, “Away from me Satan!” and find God’s angels and perhaps a special moment with God Himself, ministering grace, mercy and a sweet peace and never-ending joy once again.

Ah, yeah, we love happy endings don’t we?

Hit And Run?

So there’s a lot of us wondering just what’s around the next bend, the next winding curve, the next twist in the road. Yeah, so many bends, twists and curves in the way of this life isn’t there? So many issues that just pop up out of no where and have every intent to take us down with defeat. Truth is, sometimes they do take us down and take us over with their overwhelming heaviness and ‘no sense’ logic. They warp our minds and our hearts and leave us reeling right there smack dab in the middle of life and just when good things were happening too.

What do we do with that? What do we do with the nonsense distractions that take our focus from the good things in the journey and try to fragment our spirit with a hit and run collision? Those issues don’t stop to consult or discuss, they just ~ well, they just hit and run and leave us trampled and bruised. No answers and with really so much chaos there are no questions.
David was there at that bend, at the twist in the road ~ that winding curve, when the collision overwhelmed him. In Psalm 142: 1 – 7 the Psalmist reaches a point of despair when he cries out to the Lord…

“I cry out to the LORD; I plead for the LORD’S mercy. I pour out my complaints before Him and tell Him my troubles. When I am overwhelmed, You alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me. I look for someone to come and help me but no one gives me a passing thought. No one will help me, no one cares a bit what happens to me. …..Oh, but David in verse 5, though very low in spirit, very alone in the journey, so lonely and entrapped in his prison of harassment by foes, knows that his trust still remains in the LORD, who is his life, and he directs his focus back to the LORD’S goodness and protection. He knows that he knows his Redeemer and then yeah, what does he do? He offers praise in the hardship. Let’s do it! Let’s offer praise to our maker even for the problem.

Beautiful soul, if you’re having a bad day and that twist in the road is a sharp one, and that hit and run has left you beaten, drag your beautiful self into God’s presence and read the words of David in Psalm 143 then say with him in 143: 10, “Teach me to do Your will, for you are my God. May Your gracious spirit lead me forward, on a firm footing.” Then pray for God’s goodness to overwhelm you today and shut out the no logic nonsense of harsh distractions. God’s got this road for you, Father filtered it is and comes with His protection and safe keeping. Stay with Him! Walk with Him! Find peace in His presence and joy in His light!

Protection For The Game

So ok, sometimes life just throws it’s left hook right in your face and lands you into a tough game that you don’t know how to play. As a matter of fact you have no clue, no idea just what went down and why. There’s a whole lot of What for’s and what if’s, and how-comes and when there are no answers there is no peace!

So beautiful you, why must we have answers before we have peace? Well, truth is we don’t! You see, Answers may never come around and you, beautiful one, need to rest and receive God’s sweet grace for the difficulties. So, yeah, just rest that weary mind and come before the Creator of the universe, your Maker, your Sustainer, Your Provider, and Your Savior and let Him surround you with a divine quiet that you can feel in the depths of your soul. Ahh, yes, there are no fears in His presence, no shadows in His Light, No worries in His brilliant accomplishments, and no discouragement in His divine care!

Why then, don’t we come more often into His presence to seek His face and know His sweet peace? His sweet comfort? Maybe it’s because we’re so caught up in game that we don’t know how to play, that we forget about the One sovereign God, who does. The One who knows the end from the beginning and can play the game with His eyes closed and beat all odds. Why then do we fail to ask His guidance, His help and fail to trust His divine work?
David appealed to God’s justice and affirmed His Kingship in Psalm 7: and in verse 1, I love his prayer of affirmation to his God, “I come to You for protection, O LORD my God……rescue me.”

Let’s do it. Let’s do what David did and come before our Lord for safe keeping when the game is hard. Verse 10, 11, “God is my shield, saving those whose hearts are true and right…God is an honest judge. On into Psalm 8, “Oh LORD, our Lord, Your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens…. When I look into the night sky and see the work of Your fingers–the moon and the stars you set in place–what are mere mortals that You should think about them, human beings that You should care for them?…Oh LORD our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

So, that chaotic game of confusion that you don’t know how to play; He does and he’s making the next brilliant move if you’ll only allow Him the opportunity. Find that quiet place in your heart today! Sit before Him and let Him protect you and let Him do His work in your heart and in your game.
