What Kind Of Love?

Hebrews 12: 2.

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 12: 1, 2.

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge cloud of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down. Especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us.” We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding it’s shame. Now He is seated in the place of honour beside God’s throne….

Jesus is our supreme example of faithful endurance and all the brutal, lonely way to the cross He proved it. Not that He had to prove it, but rather it gave Him joy to die for the sinner’s hope of forgiveness, salvation and eternal life.

What kind of love is that? What kind of love endures the hard, lonely, struggle and scorns the shame of it? Only one who has his eyes fixed on His heavenly Father and His will. Christ did it for us, let’s run our own personal race for Him. Let’s face our brutal, lonely challenges for His glory. Life gets tough and quickly weighs us down. If we focus on the problem, we’ll quickly lose heart, fall from the race and succumb to the struggle, but if we focus on the Lord, we’ll find renewed strength. He blesses the life of faith in the believer, so let faith arise! Throw off the doubt, fear, worry, failures, discouragement and strongholds so that you can run freely and smoothly, without entanglement, with your eyes focused clearly on Christ, who runs beside you or carries you but also sits today at the right hand of the throne of God, interceding for you and praying for your endurance to make it to the finish line. You can do it with Him! Focus, focus, focus!

Compromise Or Obedience?

1 Timothy 2: 5-6.

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.”

Paul was giving Timothy valuable instructions based on the prophetic words spoken over him earlier, 1 Timothy 1: 18. These instructions, if followed would allow him to fight well in the Lord’s battles, because there would be battles ahead to face and overcome. Don’t we know it? Timothy was instructed to cling to his faith in Christ keeping his conscience clear in His life, his work and his ministry. Paul knew that violating one’s conscience or could we say ‘compromising’ in our life style by speaking one thing, yet living another resulted in ‘self destruction’ and as he said it, a shipwrecked faith. How disastrous when our lives come to ruin because of compromise, yet it is rampant today as those who claim the faith dabble too close to the world’s standards and then justify their choices with spiritual masquerade. God won’t stand for it! He will not allow our gods and idols to be our focus and if we continue to be distracted with the world He will step in and reveal our wretched condition. It might not be pretty because to see ourselves coming to ruin or perhaps in the pit of despair, is an eye opener. Remember, at this point, it’s never to late to return to God for salvation. He’s only a prayer away, so seek Him out and ask His help and guidance. Receive His salvation and find Hope in Christ.
Paul goes on to urge Timothy to pray for all people; to intercede for kings and those in authority so that peaceful, quiet lives of godliness would mark the believers. False teachers were a real problem for Paul because they had a deficient understanding of Jesus and His salvation and in 1 Timothy 2: 5 -6, Paul confirms there is only one mediator of God’s covenant, the man Christ Jesus, who is fully human and fully God and therefore able to reconcile God and humanity. There is no one else, and nothing else that can save us. Our works, our good deeds, our generosity, our good attitudes, our kindness, or our compassion will not give us our ticket to heaven. Christ is the only way to God.

False teaching is on the rise today as is compromise in our living. Sitting on the fence is a dangerous location where the least little thing that comes along beckons us it’s way. A watered down faith or a pretend faith doesn’t have the foundation of a solid Christ and false words, false teachers, and selfish pleasures quickly lure us
into ruin and perhaps a shipwrecked faith. Yes, It’s all too easy to loose sight of of our focus and take our eyes off of Christ in this journey. Paul’s word to Timothy to cling to His faith and keep his conscience clear, is a relevant word for us today and to do it, will certainly earmark the believer as a Christ One. Let’s be challenged today to listen to that inner voice of His Spirit, that God has so graciously given to us, as his children in order to keep us strong in the faith and free from sin. When His sweet voice, tells us something is wrong with our choice, we really need to listen and act in obedience.

Let’s get off the fence and move in the right direction, do the right thing and stay strong in our faith!

Sweet Light

“Light is sweet and it pleases the eyes to see the sun.”
Ecclesiastes 11:7.

Oh how we love the light after the bleak and after the dreary! When skies are clouded with grey, oh yes, how we love the light then! Oh how we cherish the rays of sun when they win and fight their way through the cloud and how we remember them with favour in the storms and in the darkness of our lives. Yeah, in those desperately, dark days sometimes we just want to throw in the towel and cease to run and forget to stand don’t we? Yeah, those just ‘give up” kind of days where we, for some reason, just can’t even stand not on the promises of God! It difficult to stand for the Truth, to stand for what’s right, to stand for the Light, or to stand for anything at all. No light, no sun, no hope, no motivation and who cares anyway? Just give it all up and dissipate into oblivion. It’s so much safer that way!

Beautiful soul, are you ‘standing’ still or has uninvited trouble sideswiped you off stance, off course ~ run you off track ~ mislead you out of whack? Has your world spiralled downward with all manner of distractions, and taken you along for the plummet? Yes, even when the sun shines we don’t see it’s light always, because too much dark covers our insight and blinds our pathway. “They have eyes, but they see not, ears, but they hear not”
Jeremiah 5: 21.

We cringe, we fear, we recoil and withdraw because even in the sunlight it’s so bleak and dreary some days. Well you and I and we and us ~ When we can’t find the sun, it’s crucial that we look to the Son and the Savior to find His love gracing us even in the dark. Find His care watching over us, even in the night. Find His awesome grace sustaining us over the hard places and the difficult challenges. Find the Truth in His Word to light our way and His protection to guard our minds, our hearts and our souls. Yeah, in the dark, when the sun isn’t shining for the time, we must seek Him, find Him and follow Him! We dare not wait for life to be perfect and light, before we determine to see the sweet, sweet light of Jesus’ face in the increment weather of life itself.

The writer of Ecclesiastes wisely states in 11: 4, “Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” We truly have a need to look beyond the cloud and see the Son even in our darkest hour because when we see the Son, the sun will shine again and once again hope will rise up within our souls.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Is Your Conscience Speaking?

Psalm 139: 23, 24.

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

What an awesome prayer by the Psalmist who knew His God and was very aware of his need of cleansing. He is filled with a sense of awe as he reflects on a God who knows him completely. Inside and out, upside and down, standing or sitting, near or far, in travel or at rest, he knew that he knew, that God knew Him and knew his thoughts. Nothing could hide him from the eyes of His Creator and all knowing God. His reflection leads him to consider the wicked and then to consider himself before the one, righteous Judge and examiner of all people. Is your conscience speaking? Is it time for an evaluation of the heart? Let’s thank God for the conscience that alerts us to our need for His probe deep within our heart and soul. That deep heart and soul searching accomplished by our creator pulls out the unlovely and impure that lurks within. His mercy search brings sin to the surface, so that we can deal with it, ask forgiveness and renew our minds in Christ. O Happy day, O Happy Day, when Jesus washed my sins away!

What a marvellous makeover! An awesome transformation and rejuvenation! What a miraculous beauty treatment when we allow Him to free us of your strongholds, release us from our chains of oppression and set us free from the wages of sin and all the bondage, misery and despair that it brings!
