Zephaniah 3:17

“The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

He is Almighty God! With us in our pain, our weakest moment, in our hour of despair, in our happy times and our most discouraging times! He’s our Savior, our Redeemer, our Healer, our Rock, our Refuge, our Security and our Protection. He hems us in on all sides! He’s the mender of our broken hearts , the Healer of our diseases, the Savior of our souls! Wow! He not only loves us, but He LIKES us, and this awesome God takes great delight in us! He will quiet our heart, our uneasiness, our fear, our doubt, our tension, our stress and all that strife that is happening right now in your life! He will love you through it all and rejoice over you with song. Hear His calming lullaby over you as He speaks peace into the eye of your storm, into your bad day, and into your struggle! Hear Him confirm with you that every little detail of yours is held in His hand, under His control and progressing in His sovereign direction.

Luke 2: 8 -11

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be to all people.”

Imagine night shift on a quiet hillside tending sheep! Day after day, night after night might take on the resemblance of being in a “rut.” Maybe ho hum, maybe boring, maybe sometimes a little frightening fighting off the wild animals. Now imagine suddenly the quietness breaks when out of nowhere an angel appears, radiant in God’s glorious light to announce news of a Savior’s birth. Surround sound and real life media follow as God Himself illuminates the sky with a multitude of angels, singing and praising God! A night of the same old, same old, transforms into majestic celebration!  The lowly shepherds were given a sign that the Light of the World had come. God broke through their darkness with light and brought Hope.

Have you life without meaning? Frightened, feeling lost, bored, or in a rut? God broke through the darkness with a little light that night and sent The Savior, the Light of The World, just to light your dark path and bring you into life everlasting.
Trust Him!

Let Him light your way!
Let Him illuminate your life!
He waits for you to ask!

Difficult Obedience

_DSC0003 2

Matthew 1: 20, 21

“But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because He will save his people from their sins.”

Imagine how Joseph must have felt when he first heard the news? Perhaps hurt? Embarrassed? Disappointed? Betrayed? Most likely his emotions were all over the place as he felt all of the above. He didn’t realize that God was working, even in what seemed like a terrible situation. He didn’t realize that God was working out a solution to the world’s problem, even in what seemed like a terrible situation. He had blinders on and His perspective was wrong! He didn’t see things the way they really were and He had a plan to ‘fix it’ the best way he knew how. He decided to break the engagement quietly so as not to disgrace Mary. He wanted to do the noble thing, the right thing, but he was so wrong in his thinking that it was necessary for God to intervene, take the blinders off and enlighten Joseph’s mind! He sent an angel to set him straight and encourage him through a difficult time. Joseph’s response was immediate, simple, selfless obedience. What prepared Joseph to handle such a surprise with such grace? He was a ‘righteous’ man. Righteousness, in the Old Testament was defined as being innocent and doing right; for Matthew, the most Jewish of the gospel writers, it was being ethical and doing the will of God. Joseph truly sought to do the right thing in all situations and this situation was no different, but his plan was wrong! When God spoke through the angel, Joseph knew his plan to break the engagement was not an option. He had to be willing to make necessary changes, even in light of his reputation that was no doubt, at stake. He had to be willing to experience some difficult moments in the face of others and be obedient even through it all.

Are there any surprises in your life? Are there things that have thrown you off course? Intruded in on your life at the seemingly worst possible time? Things that are threatening your well – being? Maybe your reputation. Sure, maybe you think you know the best way to deal with it, but be careful! Handle with care! Did you ever think that quite possibly it’s God’s intervention in your life? Quite possibly it’s the storm before the blessing in His recycling program; always turning the less than ideal circumstances into good, in order to fulfill His purpose! Seek God and His righteousness! Talk to Him! Listen to His counsel and let Him enlighten you! Get a proper perspective! See things through His eyes! Make wise choices! Do as He says and do the right thing! In humbleness of spirit watch His grace surround you as He guides you through difficult days into glorious blessing.

That’s what He does!! I love how He does it!

Your Wings Await

Last summer I became intrigued with the beauty of the Monarch butterfly and for a few short months, I had the privilege of raising a few, watching them undergo their amazing transformation from tiny, pearl egg deposited on the Milkweed to caterpillar and onto the gorgeous chrysalis of green/blue trimmed with gold. Oh how beautiful was this to watch and breathtaking to see the actual wings unfold. The experience was one like no other, and other than the distinct awe and miracle of giving birth to my own children or aiding our little, furry dogs through the birth experience, this Monarch event totally consumed my emotions. However it didn’t come without hitches and glitches. It didn’t come without trouble and sadness and disappointment. But it did come with lessons as I watched one particular caterpillar make his journey. Keep in mind this was a new found hobby and as anything new takes a little knowledge, so did this experience.

I didn’t know what I was doing other than jumping into the milkweed patch head first and hoping to eventually find wings at a later stage in the progression. Let me take you back to that day ~ when I thought my wings would never unfold and for sure would never fly.

He was a cute, little thing probably at 3rd star development. I didn’t know he was there, on the milkweed flowers stationed on my cupboard in the flower vase. That is, until he got big enough to be visible to my dim eyesight. Oh he was beautifully put together with the distinct marking of the Monarch caterpillar. What fun it would be to watch his miracle unfold right before my eyes. He munched happily away until one day he didn’t! He lost zest, energy and to my human eyes he lost life. He didn’t eat for a day or night and could barely hold on to a leaf because of weakness. Disappointing? Yes!! Here I was waiting in anticipation, pumped and eager to watch a beautiful transformation from grub to butterfly over the weeks to come, but today, there was no question in my mind that he was dying, and would be lifeless when I returned home. Whatever had happened, I didn’t know! I left the house feeling like a kid that had just lost a pet turtle and sadness ripped and tugged at my heart. Upon my return, my first stop was to his box to see a lifeless form but instead I noticed a piece of him! What on earth was going on? It looked like a face mask, laying on a leaf and he was munching away happily on a fresh milkweed leaf just as he had been a couple of days earlier. To this bewildered caterpillar raiser, it was mind boggling really! Totally an amazing thing to see! I knew they shed their layers to make room for new growth, but I didn’t know the particulars of how it happened. They say ignorance is bliss but it wasn’t in the early moments of that day. A little understanding would have saved me from heaps of disappointment.

I watched a number of caterpillars form a gorgeous chrysalis and emerge with beautiful wings over the summer. There were other issues to deal with, but most were healthy and I;m in hopeful anticipation of next spring when the fresh milkweed will flower in their beautiful, pink blooms once again, attracting the Monarchs to lay their most gorgeous, beautiful eggs. I’ve planted a couple of plants in my own butterfly garden and hope to have some enthusiastic visitors drop by to provide me with some more Monarch adventures over the season. Maybe next time I’ll have a little more understanding and a bigger success rate.

It’s God’s perfect plan for the caterpillar to shed a little of himself to allow for new growth but he has to almost die first to live again. Let’s understand something for our own lives here to keep disappointment from mounting to uncontrollable heights. Think with me, of our spiritual lives and how, as we mature in Christ, the old has to fall away bit by bit as the new life in Christ becomes more evident. It might not be an easy time and we may feel that all zest and life are gone from us as we undergo loss and sometimes severe loss. It might be a very difficult time of pain for others who look on to see suffering! In reality it’s just another step in the direction of that amazing transformation for new life! Understand this, that in God’s scheme of things, it’s in the difficult places that we grow and ultimately emerge with the beautiful wings of grace! It’s in the difficult places where the blessings flow! Next time the battle rages remember the caterpillar. From a flat out grub crawling on the ground to near death, new skin, new life and ultimately on to beautiful, soaring wings. Such amazing, miraculous growth doesn’t happen in a day or overnight. It’s a gradual progression that takes time. Be patient, with yourself and loved ones. Persevere and press on for your miracle. Take heart my friend!
Your wings await!
