After The Wings

I’ve been raising Monarchs this season and finding it a delightful past time. This is the first one to emerge from it’s snug chrysalis where it made it’s amazing transformation from Caterpillar to wings. It’s been a beautiful journey so far with these amazing creations that God has given to grace our world.

So a few hours later our first hatchling from the chrysalis was taken outside to dry in the soft breeze. The breeze caught his wings and he took off in a first, unsteady flight and flew right into a spider web. How disappointing and distressing to watch it go down but at the same time, it was a wonderful feeling to come to his rescue. So, carefully loosening him free from the web and brushing off the sticky silk from his feet and face, we ventured over to the butterfly bush where he hid under a few leaves and spent many more hours on sweet, nectar flowers! Later in the day, it was a delight to see him in brilliant, beautiful flight and freedom. No more crawling on the milkweed, but now soaring in the wind with beautiful grace!

What a spectacular journey and transformation from caterpillar to butterfly and yet his unsteady wings of freedom, weren’t even enough. They quickly ushered him into trouble and landed him smack dab in the middle of a dreadful and invisible web of deception. He wasn’t strong enough yet to fight it on his own and without human rescue, he wouldn’t have made it. He would have had to succumb to the entrapment of the deadly web and all just after gaining a new freedom. It makes me wonder how anything survives on it’s own in the wild! It’s also a good reminder of how we need a Saviour to rescue us from the dreadful web of sin. Our unsteady wings of freedom lead us quickly into invisible webs of trouble to quickly entangle us and without a Sovereign God, who is rich in mercy and grace coming to our aid to free us with His awesome and amazing plan of salvation, we too, are entrapped before we ever begin our life journey! We sit wrapped in the sticky pleasures of our selfish desires without any hope of escape! Praise God, He made a way for us to be set free through Christ who came to our rescue! Through the cross, the shed blood and His divine, glorious resurrection and transformation, we too, can be set free in beautiful flight when we seek Him and ask his forgiveness.

Isaiah 53:6
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

What Do We Do With That?

So, was it really so? Did a co – pilot take down the plane? So ~ then no one really knows who’s flying our planes these days, taking who knows who to who knows where ~ or not??? Just sayin’
— feeling confused.

So what do we do with that? This world is so messed up and apparently we can’t trust the pilots, even though they’ve made it through their high quality testing and all security rules and regulations. On board to assist in the flight of a plane and instead take it over and take it down with all passengers in one big explosion! How senseless? How crazy? How would this happen with our strict security regulations of air flight? No answers and never any concrete solutions. Not in this world.

There are no concrete solutions to the abstractness of everything going on around us? It appears the more men try to fix issues and take control the more out of hand it gets. It shakes the very core of our being and strikes fear into our souls. For sure this is a time when we need our faith in God to be a substantial concrete foundation for our fleeting lives; built on the solid rock that can’t move or wash away or change with the winds, or the times. An abstract faith in stuff won’t cut it to give us any sense of peace because possessions are here today and gone tomorrow. They explode in plane crashes, go up in smoke with fires, rust and decay in bad weather. Yeah, maybe they’re  fun for a time but without any promise of hope!  We need God ~ the One True sovereign God who knows the end from the beginning and knows that the world is the way it is because sin is sin and the world is full of it. The One who knows planes will go down, trains will derail, cars will crash, people will kill, and thieves will steal! The One who knows fires will devastate, tsunamis will flood, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tornadoes will destroy! He knows all about the bad things and the sin that rampages the world. and yet, in His love, He came to offer the salvation solution and free us from its icy grip. The world won’t heal until it’s people do and the salvation God offers is the only way!

Turning, repenting, humbling and healing. It’s the only way to find peace in a senseless world where there is no peace.

2 Chronicles 7: 13 -14
“If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. “Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.…

Covered By Grace

So you missed the mark? It’s ok! There’s God’s grace for that!

Ahh, that unconditional love that God gives is a blessing isn’t it? Aren’t you so thankful for it on the days when you feel you’ve missed the mark and it really doesn’t matter what others think anyway, it’s really about how God sees you! Even though you feel tossed, wrecked and blown about in the winds of chaotic guilt storms ~ God sees you beautiful and lovely. Ahh, yes He does! He overlooks the mark we missed and covers us with ~ that precious mercy and sweet grace of forgiveness again! Why are we so reluctant to accept it? It’s always there to meet us and cover us even in our most down of down moments. It’s always there for the worries that took over, the doubts that crept in, the fear filled moments where faith didn’t surface ~ no ~ not even for a second, and where temptation was stronger than our self-discipline.

There are so many crafty and subtle things the enemy uses to set us up, catching us in the trap of guilt ~ making us believe the lie that we’re not good enough for any good at all~ especially for any good things that God has to offer. Yet, that’s exactly what God had in mind for His created people with His plan of salvation wrapped in awesome, unconditional love. Christ, The cross, the shed blood, the grave, the resurrection and the victory over death. It’s what He came for and It’s yours! It’s mine! It’s ours for the asking and receiving of it. Look to the cross ~ it’s there for our salvation for this journey of “now” life and “Life Everlasting” and it’s there when we miss the marks along the way. Step into that peace!

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever would believe on Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

1 Corinthians 1:18
“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

Breaking Free Of The Past

DSC_0022

It’s easier to defeat an external enemy than it is to manage an internal one. We can rebuke, walk away from, cold shoulder, and ignore the external giving the illusion that we’re in control; not saying it’s right but it is how we deal with many that have hurt us or caused us pain. In the big picture though, It still boils down to that ego inside and that inner selfishness, arrogance and pride that has it’s cold, icy fingers wrapped around us. Yeahhh…Well, that’s a different story! Oh if we could only rebuke it! Cold shoulder it and walk away leaving it in a heap of rubble, life would be grand. However it’s a bigger beast to take on and we are powerless to fight it off as over and over again it resurfaces to defeat us!

God delivered His people out of Egypt , but He had a more difficult time taking Egypt out of His people. Oh they were okay for a short while until food got scarce, then their minds wandered back to Egypt and the pots filled with meat and bread…all they could eat. They had been set free of bondage and set on a new journey to their promised land but they weren’t free at all because Egypt, in their past bondage, still captivated their minds.   They spoke out against their leadership in Moses and Aaron. They complained about their hardships!   They complained of the manna that God was so gracious to provide and thought only of the fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic that were plentiful back in their bondage.   They remembered the delicacies of their table rather than the misery of their slavery!   Do you go there?   Back to comfort zone of your old life style simply because it’s too difficult to move forward?

How much do thankless spirits, passions for self – preservation and “dates with the world” motivate to sin in thought, word and deed?   In our quest for pleasure and safe keeping, we can miss the spiritual mark of God’s salvation, preservation and abundant life, where instead of gaining, we lose it all. G. K. Chesterton once said, “How much larger life would be if “self” could become smaller in it.

Take a look at your heart to see if Egypt still resides within. Do the old ways of sin that held you in bondage still have a lure to take you back there to it’s dreadful prison of torment?
True freedom is found only Christ.   He died for you to allow you to make the break from the old past ~ “the slavery of Egypt” possible in your life.   In His will is perfect freedom and all the sweet manna that life has to offer through abundant life, while living here on this earth. Bonus ~ along with that salvation, is our guaranteed entry into the promised land and haven of rest when this life is over!

Exodus 16: 8
So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, “The Lord will give you meat to eat in the evening and bread to satisfy you in the morning, for He has heard all your complaints against Him.”
