Be Still

So today, maybe we all just need to inhale God’s grace and exhale His praise. Maybe we all just need to sit still in His presence and recognize who He is and what He means to us in all of our ups and downs, highs and lows, in and outs, faults and all.

Yeah, so maybe it’s a hard day of j nothing but “All gone wrong” and everything seems so misshapen and out of sorts.

Where’s the joy when the world’s in a mess and your world follows close behind in its messed-up footsteps? The joy you knew yesterday took a dive into the deep and it kinda seems like it’s gone forever. Here in this dreadful “now” moment, you’re emptied of emotion and the pain felt in the heart can’t feel the hurt anymore because it’s just too weary to feel anymore.
Where do you go when worries have numbed your spirit and hung your beautiful soul out to dry? Where is your refuge when your world hangs by a thread, and the thing you feared most has taken its position? The Psalmist in Psalm 46 tells us,

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though it’s watered roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Beautiful one, when all is lost, the Psalmist goes on to bring words of hope to the reader,

“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the Holy Place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day…Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Oh, what comfort for our crumpled spirit and our broken world. God is in charge and He will be exalted in your situation and in your circumstances if you rest “Still” in Him and know that He is sovereign overall. Rest then today ~ right now ~ you who are broken, and shattered in your brokenness, just be still in Him.

“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold.”

Psalm 46:10

A Grace Far Greater

So some days it just feels like it shouldn’t begin right? Well, beautiful one, when it’s all going in the wrong direction and up is down and right is wrong, you still have God’s gentle, sweet grace right there where you are!

Yup, in your corner and rooting for you is the God of all creation with His plan to fix and repair, soothe and comfort. Thing is, when it’s all said and done, that’s enough to cover it, so sit tight, and bask in it today. Sit tight and let Him add a sweet essence of grace flavour to your all gone wrong day.

That’s what He does. I love how He does it.

“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.”
Ephesians 4:7

In A Slump

So, when you’re in a slump and feel that you haven’t enough of anything that it takes to get through the day, you go in God’s strength. His strength alone will get you there; out of the slump, out of the rut, out of the fear, out of the panic, out of the worry and out of the confusion of it all. Oh yeah, His strength alone is your plugged in power source for the next moment, the next hour, the next day, the next month and yes all the way through the next year as it unravels and unfolds. So ~ when you’re tied up in knots about impossibilities and things you can’t change, and bad news hits the home front or the news headlines. and when your motivation hits an all-time low, or when the bottom has dropped out of your day, and your world has just done a topsy – turvy off the map, you know He’s caught it, and you know He’s got it.

Yeah, this almighty One who suspends the world in the universe and allows it to spin ever so gently with just the perfect formula and perfect precision timing, knows how to pull your day back into line and your world back into order. Hey! When it’s all gone wrong, remember, God writes it off as a blessing and makes it all okay! Oh, you won’t see it right away but, beautiful soul, it will be ok! It will! It will all turn around and turn out for the best if you don’t leave God out of the equation. If you trust Him through it and say with the Psalmist in Psalm 69: 13 – 15, “But I pray to you, O Lord, in the time of Your favor; in Your great love, O God, answer me with Your sure salvation. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink;….do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close it’s mouth over me.”

Psalm 70: 1, “Hasten, O God to save me; O Lord come quickly to help me.”

He will come just as surely as you wait there. Truth is, He hasn’t left. He just waits for your call. That’s what moves Him to action. He loves His people and will not leave them nor forsake them.. You can know it!

Psalm 70: 5
“Yet, I am poor and needy; come quickly to help me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer.”

Deuteronomy 31:8
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Crushed World

P1060145

So yeah, some days it seems like the whole world is crowding in on yours and your little space becomes oh so much smaller with people out of place and distractions pounding at your door. Where’s the logic to all this stuff and where did all the chaos come from? Your once quiet moments have become noisy with demands! Your fears surface and your anxieties reel out of control. A once safe-place becomes perilous and frightening and a once peaceful plateau suddenly dips into the valley of despair. So much, so many, so this, so that, and on and on it goes and where it stops nobody knows!

P1060131
Oh for sure, no one knows anything about it except our Keeper and our Maker. Our God who cares deeply for our needs. In Psalm 46:10 He gives a direct message to the psalmist to confirm the authenticity of his vision when He says “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The whole of the next chapter ~ Psalm 47 celebrates God’s kingship over the earth and His sovereignty over the nations. So you, beautiful soul, let God’s presence and power envelop you right where you are, and allow Him to hover over your little world and saturate it’s chaotic nooks and crannies with His divine presence and drive out the uncertainties and unsettled anxieties. Hush, be still and know Him for who He is, and as a God who’s King over the earth and in charge of the nations, you can know He’s in charge of your corner! Your world is held and orchestrated by Him and held fast in the palm of a nail imprinted hand and He’s got it and He’s got you and He cares. He really does!

So now, when it’s all gone wrong and left and not right and it’s all empty yet so full of stuff, come on now beautiful you and join the choir director in Psalm 47 1, 2, 3, “Come everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet.” So when the big world is closing in on yours, meet the frustration and manage the panic head on by just praising our God, the sovereign One! The creator of Heaven and earth, who cared enough to provide a way to safety through Jesus our Savior, the One true King, the victorious One, the saviour of our beautiful souls and the author and finisher of our faith!

Hebrew 12: 1, 2, 3
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.…”
