Weary And Worn

DSC_0008 overlay 3 graceful sharpen snowman.jpgSo there’s most likely a whole bunch of us tired tonight. Victims of stuff that happens in daily routine. Sometimes don’t we even wonder why, as it seems that nothing out of the ordinary has happened, it’s just everything all coming together into one big conundrum without any reprieve. Oh, aren’t we needing quiet rest for the weariness of our beings and for the healing of our souls? Yeah, the body is willing but the mind is weak, and sometimes we just can’t shut it down or shut it off and find sweet peace in there somewhere ~ anywhere. We’ve done dinner, and dishes and kids and laundry, yes, even on Sunday, and we’ve done more dinner and dishes and kids and laundry, yes, even on Sunday. We’ve dealt with issues, hurts, bandaids, snacks and pets, and ministries and services, people and did I say kids? Yeah, big ones, little ones, newborns, fighting kids and obnoxious kids and selfish kids and more kids and does it ever stop long enough to catch your breath? No, not likely ~ not until you’ve totally flopped back on that bed, eyes closed, breathing a quick sigh of relief five minutes before a whailing cry pierces the dark! Maybe teeth, maybe tummy, maybe sniffles, maybe nightmares, but you mom, are up to deal with it. And you were so tired too. It doesn’t seem fair, and this motherhood thing, this sweet pic of motherhood, seems way bigger and longer lasting than the books ever painted it!

You’re a busy mom and a wearied, beautiful soul, sometimes tattered and torn and tossed about in the massive, whirlwind of your needy family. Is there ever time for you to collect your thoughts, regroup and recoup? Yeah, you feel like you stand on the banks of your own personal, private Red Sea that refuses to part! Not now, not ever! But beautiful mom, and you, it will part, and it will end, and for now just know that yours is the highest calling anyone could be blessed with. You lead life itself into maturity, and it’s a hard place and tough job because it’s so daily but it’s well worth the effort and the constant demands as you wear the many hats of your day to help satisfy the many needs of your brood. Ahhh yes, when you reach that comfy, soft pillow one more time say with the Psalmist in Palm 62: 5,6,7,8  “Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. He alone is my Rock and my salvation. My fortress where I shall not be shaken….Oh my people trust Him at all times. Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.” Then look on to Psalm 66:  5,6 and take comfort and find Hope in a God of miracles and a God of grace and a God of mercy and favour. A God who cares about the cares of His own…yeah, “Come and see what our God has done. What awesome miracles He performs for His people. He made a dry path through the Red Sea, and His people went across on foot.”
You will too! Your feet will find a foothold in the instabilities and diversities of mom life! It might not be within the next five minutes but your Red Sea will part and when it does, you’ll know it. You will realize God’s amazing and sustaining grace that has kept you through the stormy seasons of this life. For now though, mom, Rest your weary soul in God’s hands and find His care for your sweet self as you gently dole it out to ‘life’ entrusted to you and life in your care.

Don’t Hang Up Your Harp

DSC_2812So it’s done it again and life has thrown another wrench on the road of your trying journey. You can’t get over it and you can’t get around it and you just know you can’t get through it! So, here you are left feeling frustrated, empty and unhappy with your plight! Possibly fearful, alone and anxious. The way is ominous, and mysterious and so very unfulfilling. There are no answers and seriously sometimes there are just no questions because how does one wrap their head and their heart around the difficulties that evolve out of no where? How does one elaborate on “Why”? So much stuff and now what? Where does the heart go when the head just doesn’t understand? Beautiful soul, go to the Father who knows the “Why” and chooses to keep it for you. Go to the One in sovereign charge over your matters, your issues, your concerns and your cares. In Psalm 137 God’s people sat by the rivers of Babyon and wept. They were in exile in a pagan land and their song was gone. They hung up their harps in the tree branches because it was too painful to remember the joyous moments of their promised land. They had been bullied by leaders and kings from inside and outside of Israel. David though, chose to remember Jerusalem even through the pain and so can we. Let’s say with him in Psalm 138:2b, 3: “I will praise Your name for Your unfailing love and faithfulness; for Your promises are backed by all the honour of Your name. As soon as I pray, You answer me; You encourage me by giving me strength.”

So whatever it is that’s been thrown at you, or whatever it is that you’ve lost, or whatever it is that has holds you in bondage, do not hang up your harp because of it. Do not let it take your song! Don’t let it rob you of your joy! Instead, like David, praise God anyway and remember His faithfulness. Receive His encouragement for the moment and find a renewed strength even in your sorrow. Even in your loss. Even in your sadness!

Crushed World

P1060145

So yeah, some days it seems like the whole world is crowding in on yours and your little space becomes oh so much smaller with people out of place and distractions pounding at your door. Where’s the logic to all this stuff and where did all the chaos come from? Your once quiet moments have become noisy with demands! Your fears surface and your anxieties reel out of control. A once safe-place becomes perilous and frightening and a once peaceful plateau suddenly dips into the valley of despair. So much, so many, so this, so that, and on and on it goes and where it stops nobody knows!

P1060131
Oh for sure, no one knows anything about it except our Keeper and our Maker. Our God who cares deeply for our needs. In Psalm 46:10 He gives a direct message to the psalmist to confirm the authenticity of his vision when He says “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The whole of the next chapter ~ Psalm 47 celebrates God’s kingship over the earth and His sovereignty over the nations. So you, beautiful soul, let God’s presence and power envelop you right where you are, and allow Him to hover over your little world and saturate it’s chaotic nooks and crannies with His divine presence and drive out the uncertainties and unsettled anxieties. Hush, be still and know Him for who He is, and as a God who’s King over the earth and in charge of the nations, you can know He’s in charge of your corner! Your world is held and orchestrated by Him and held fast in the palm of a nail imprinted hand and He’s got it and He’s got you and He cares. He really does!

So now, when it’s all gone wrong and left and not right and it’s all empty yet so full of stuff, come on now beautiful you and join the choir director in Psalm 47 1, 2, 3, “Come everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet.” So when the big world is closing in on yours, meet the frustration and manage the panic head on by just praising our God, the sovereign One! The creator of Heaven and earth, who cared enough to provide a way to safety through Jesus our Savior, the One true King, the victorious One, the saviour of our beautiful souls and the author and finisher of our faith!

Hebrew 12: 1, 2, 3
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every encumbrance and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race set out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.…”

Heavy Heart

DSC_9121

So, when ~ ‘What’s on your mind and heart’ is too heavy, and seems to consume your every thought, paralyzing you with worry, or when people hold you over a barrel of threats and friends deceive, disappointing deeply, look to the God who gives authority to crush the enemy’s tactics and the God who cares deeply for your beautiful soul.

DSC_8882

Yeah, in those down and out moments it’s truly time to offer Him praise as you say with the Psalmist in Psalm 118: 8- 13, 16b, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. Though hostile nations surrounded me, I destroyed them all with the authority of the Lord. They swarmed around me like bees; they blazed against me like a crackling fire. But I destroyed them all with the authority of the Lord. My enemies did their best to kill me, but the Lord rescued me. The Lord is my strength and my song and He has given me victory…the strong right arm of the Lord has done glorious things.”

Stand on His promise. Claim His Truth and watch His deliverance.
