The Inn

Advent
Advent

Come with me for a moment to The inn. You’ve travelled a long road and a difficult one. Your heart is heavy and your soul laden with care. Mary’s journey was difficult too as she carried the heavy load of a babe, the Saviour of the world, about to be delivered. Can you imagine the ridicule she must have taken from those who knew her? The rejection that she must have faced in the event of God’s calling on her life. Oh yeah, her journey was difficult and the road to Bethlehem was painful, but that was just the way it had to go down.

See the inn? See how busy it is? See the baggage left in heaps by so many travellers, so weary, so worn, so anxious to get lodging for their weary bodies and aching feet? Mary needed it too and imagine Joseph, caring so deeply for her but being told, “Sorry, there’s not a room left here. All I can do is show you a stable.” A pieced together shack laden with straw for the animals? Yeah, but it was shelter for the night and a place to lay a couple of weary heads, and hearts and minds, so it was all good. Have you been there at all? To a place that doesn’t offer much protection or stability? A place where everyone else has the spotlight but you? Where everyone has the shelter but you? And then ~ there’s your baggage! It’s heavy too isn’t it? But there’s hardly a place to put it down for the night except on a mud floor in the midst of straw? But really, beautiful soul, just lay it down, even there. Give it up! Let it go! Forget it ~ the journey is over now! It’s time to find rest for a few hours. Mary and Joseph put their baggage down and rested on that floor of mud and the Savior of the world, their Savior began there! It’s there they met Him face to face. It’s there God became flesh in that obscure, desolate place and you got to know, He’s still there today ~ in all the places of insecurity, nothingness, emptiness, loneliness, ridicule and rejection. If that’s where you find yourself on this day in real-life and real-time, He’s there with you! He’s been there, done that, and knows your hurt. He came to light the darkness, heal the pain, forgive the sin, save the sinner and bless the soul and take the baggage. He desires to give you all that you need, right here at the inn of rejection and perhaps bitterness, or maybe even anger and pain today. Take your place in the stable with Him and let Him show you the way out to victory in this glorious celebration of Advent! Aren’t we thankful for a Savior who left the glories of heaven to be born in such a lowly place, in order to reach out to all the lowly people and places in a world of need?
Oh yeah, you gotta know we are!

1 John 4: 14
“And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.”

Matthew 1:21
“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins

Journey To Bethlehem

Advent
Advent

Oh yeah, it’s another day, but it’s another day scheduled into the beautiful, Advent season and it’s a day when we can continue our celebration of a royal, heavenly birth. So in a quiet moment take some time to ponder it! Take time to take your mind and your heart and your soul to a place of celebration, to that stable in Bethlehem where it all happened. Where the birth of one who was born to save the world was placed in a lowly manger. One born under God’s divine plan to pick us up from our defeated life of sin and give new life to the broken, the hurting, and the rejected. One who heals the pitiful pain of the broken spirit and the wounded, beautiful soul. One who came to crush the enemy underfoot and lead us onward ~ surely and steadfastly, through the long, daunting journey of life.

Oh yeah, it’s another day but it’s a day to praise Jesus our Lord, for all the good things and the not so good things that come our way. He is life, He is healing and He is victory! Rest at that manger scene in your heart today! Let it warm you and thrill you as you See Him, the Christ child and realize afresh and anew our glorious reason to celebrate even on a mundane, yet another day

Luke 2: 6 & 7
“While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”

Steadfast And Faithful

Little Thoughts For Big Days
Little Thoughts For Big Days

So every day is the same beautiful story day after day, time after time and moment by moment isn’t it? The same, beautiful, story of God’s faithfulness to His own! Oh yeah, it’s stories go beyond the impossible to miracles small and great and are etched into every run down and beaten corner of our homes, inscribed upon every weary step of our journey and in scripted into the tattered pages of our lives. God’s faithfulness? It’s been with us through thick and thin hasn’t it and so graciously serenaded us since we met Christ how ever many years ago? Our life story manifests it and over and over and over again ~ He is so faithful to the thankful heart and the lonely heart, and the pained and beautiful soul of the weary and the weak. Ahh yes, His faithfulness to us ~ so far-reaching ~ so unique and customized and so perfectly designed for our needs and it comes through wrapped in His sweet grace every single time!

So when the day ahead looks daunting and the hours appear as mountains on the horizon, Look for that gift of faithfulness and know that His mercies are new every morning. Yeah you, right where you are, know that God is there in your present moment and in the overwhelming hour of struggle. Remember when He led you out of the wilderness, parted the sea, and provided your manna? Be thankful for those times and you, beautiful soul, let your faith arise and propel you through the next hour where He can gather you up in His mercy and show you once again, His forever faithfulness and unconditional love!

So faithful through all seasons of life.
So faithful through all seasons of life.

Lamentations 3:22-23 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Psalms 36:5 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds

The Brightest Light

John 1: 4-8, 9, 10, 14a

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light….The One who is the true Light was coming into the world. He came into the very world He created, but the world didn’t recognize Him. and even they rejected Him….so the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory.”

Advent
Advent

So today, look past the twinkle and sparkle of the festive decor and notice the brightest light of the Advent season! The One True Light that shines brighter than them all ~ brighter than all the rest and even brighter than the star that came to rest over the stable to announce His royal, heavenly birth. Yeah, the Messiah a gift from Heaven, was promised to a hurting world and He came as light and hope and life and flesh and walked among us! His light and His word lights our way, through this wretched world and through the darkness and the unknown because He Himself is the Light and in Him there is no darkness at all as 1 John 1: 5 reminds us, “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.”

If we abide in Him and He in us, our pathway is illuminated by this One who came to light our way and show us His glory. So, beautiful soul, if you’ve seen the glory of His Light, praise the God who graced you with favour and remember to pray diligently for those who haven’t yet recognized Him or accepted Him. Pray for those who have yet to be awakened to the wonder of His unconditional love and forever faithfulness. Pray for them to be rallied and quickened to new light and new life in Christ, as we share the joy of the season through the message of Light, Hope and unconditional love to those around us.
